UM removing Yost's name from hockey arena?
« on: May 24, 2021, 05:02:53 PM »
More cancel culture.
Yost didn't let a black player play vs GT, probably for his safety or something.  Tough call, may or may not have made the wrong decision in 1934.  19 freaking 34.  Yost died in 1946.
.
A guy wasn't woke in 1934 so his name should be removed, right?
This is so dumb.  It's like the death of history.
.
If someone imperfect (ie- everyone) has a statue or something or their name on a brick-and-mortar building, a curious kid may ask, "Who was ________?"  You tell them why they have something still standing or their name carved into stone and then you add in the extra stuff, which may or may not be flattering.
.
This isn't hard.

On a Blue Board they're not real upset as Yost had nothing to do with Hockey
Suburbia:Where they tear out the trees & then name streets after them.

I don't see why some people can't see the difference between those who openly declared war against our country, and a guy whose views were probably moderate for the times, and maybe didn't age great.

Not exactly "leaders and best"

It is very interesting - this was not some sort of decision everyone was happy with and then retconned 80 years later. People were mad as hell at the time.

If the Caucasoid SJWs were to successfully cancel Yost and get all of his wins vacated, it would put a pretty big dent in their helmet status.

Gone would be 165 wins including 6 National Championships and two additional undefeated seasons, 10 Big Ten Titles, a win in the first ever Rose Bowl, 16 wins vs Ohio St, 16 wins vs Michigan St, 2 wins vs Notre Dame, and 10 wins vs Minnesota.

It'd be great if everyone from the past knew how things would shake out and all of their actions would be revealed as right by future generations.....but that lays too much on them.
It was a no-win situation.  GA Tech was in the wrong.  Yost happened to not rise to the opportunity.

Ga Tech players would have reacted "badly" to a "colored" player on the opponent's team.

That was a time few of us can imagine, fortunately, but should try and understand and learn about.

This is an odd part of our culture. We take something that's relatively dumb (throwing a fit over this incident) and drag it out to the most backwild limit so it can offend us. As if vacating wins actually matters in the first place.

(The turning of "cancel culture" into a one-sided thing has been a triumph of branding, for sure. As if declaring certain things unacceptable and shouting them down ain't the most bipartisan thing possible)

In the era of WW2, there were people who believed a master white race should remain at the top? I feel like I learned that somewhere.

It is especially great when people were comparing Yost to Hitler at the time, and while Hitler was in power.
