Wow--I loved London. Touristy stuff? Sure. But it was great. Saw the palace / changing of the guard (that wasn't great, but it wasn't bad, either). Churchill war rooms / museum were very cool, parliament was interesting, Westminster was interesting (one of the original versions of the Magna Carta is there), British Museum was awesome (as museums go)--the greatest collection of stolen artifacts in the world (including most of the Parthenon from Greece), Trafalgar Square was interesting, Tower of London was touristy and awesome, Abbey Road and the Beatles recording studio were alright (SFIrish really wanted to see go). We stayed in Notting Hill. Nice walking area, lots of green parks in the City, and there were so many more things we wanted to do: several walking tours looked really interesting, many more museums that I would have gone to. Took the underground everywhere, which was easy.
We enjoyed mostly pub food. Was it amazing? No. Was it good? Yes. As was the beer.
We also took a day trip out to Bovington (the British tank museum), which was very cool if you are into tanks, and Stonehenge, which I expected to be completely stupid. I actually really liked it. Driving a manual on the wrong side was curious. I only hit one curb (I think), but [mostly] enjoyed the challenge. But I do not recommend renting a car from an off-airport agency. Oof, that was an ordeal.
Everyone in my family really wants to go back.
