Exactly.

The health insurance and pensions really bother me. Security too.

Let them use the ACA and 401K and carry their own security (with a gun permit, of course) like the peasants.

I enjoyed Acadia, but it is not like the NPs that I've spent the most time in. It's not the kind of place you can get lost in the wilderness, and backpack through for days. It has a beautiful coastline and plenty of nice views. If you're into the New England coast, it's great. I'm glad we went there. I won't trip over myself to go back.

OK I think I'm going to try to put together a Europe trip this summer.  Due to crazy kid schedules between scout summer camps, college orientation, and a couple of family obligations, it looks like we're only going to get about a week, maybe 9 days if we stretch it.

So I'm thinking just one city, that's also a major airport and as direct of a route as possible, to minimize travel time and maximize fun Europe time.

I'd love to do London but my i s c & a aggie wife really just isn't into it that or anything else in England/Scotland/Ireland.  She's definitely more interested in Western/Southern Europe.

I have an idea of what I want but I'm interested in hearing other thoughts on where to go to stick around in basically one place and see as much cool stuff as possible.

Given that, I think I'd stay in Florence and use it as a base to take the trains to other cities.

I've never been, but my traveler kid was impressed with the East side of the Adriatic.  More so than the West, as she took a day train over that way one day.  Complained it was crazy overcrowded.

She climbed the ancient wooden stairs that Rick Steves showed in an episode, that was kinda cool.

But she also spent a bunch of her time on a small sailing yacht that made it's way North.

Paris, lots of stuff in and around, particularly if you are into museums. Normandy is not too far.

Rome, great history all around. Florence a train ride away. Amalfi coast a drive away.
