perfect

I try to have a clear head by 9am most mornings, especially when I'm working
I'll be north of town at the holiday inn.
I'll shoot a text when I have an ETA Wednesday afternoon.
Probably around 5 or 6.

We're heading up into the mountains for three nights.  It's early but one can see further this time of year and the weather looks good.  My wife really enjoys Highlands, NC and we're staying at Amicalola Lodge in GA two nights as well.  Do a bit of hiking.  My Dad is from around there and so am I to an extent.

you really should stay home and make use of your place more than 6 or 7 days a month

My calendar indicates that would be a go!

Have to have a clear head by 9 am the next day, and trust me, you don't want to be driving around this college town with any kind of significant BAC on board.  They ignored the study they paid for to try to get rid of all the one-way streets, because it would cut into municipal court revenue if the pre-cursor for DUI targeting was eliminated.
perhaps I should put the golf clubs in the trunk - the forecast for Wednesday afternoon is inviting - not much wind

We enjoy taking 2-3 night trips around the general area.  It doesn't cost much, we see new stuff, stop in weird places, hike some, try some new food, it's fun.

The weather the next few days is supposed to be very nice.

leaving in a few weeks for a cross country trip going to hit family and friends on the way east. stay in Maine on the ocean for 2 months. Then going to Niagara Falls, Mt Rushmore, Devil's tower, the badlands, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, Redwood National, Yosemite and then home. That's the plan, but subject to change as we travel. Figure we will be gone for at least 3 months.

Awesome.  Yosemite is pretty far south of your planned path, but worth it.  Look at taking the Tioga Pass road up from Mono Lake.  You'd be passing Tahoe also.

Quite a bit further south would be Zion NP and the GC NP of course.

Are you going to stay on I-90, or drive through Ontario after the Falls?

Originally were going to cross Ontario but decided against it.  Thought about cutting across Michigan and taking the ferry across the lake

Which Ferry? There are two. SS Badger and the Lake Express.
