She probably wouldn't appreciate the French restaurant LaBistro but I love their food. Generally eat their at least a couple of times on a cruise
We usually dine there once or twice, it's "free" for us.  Sorta.  Her main complaint is the menu never seems to change.  The food is ... "OK", I don't find it substantially better than their regular dining rooms.  When we did the 29 day Asian cruise we dined there probably 6 times because we got to know the servers (and wine dude).

It's pretty typically "Americanized French"... the odd thing is she usually orders their steak "blu rare" and nearly always sends it back.  They just don't understand, and that happens here as well on "rare" occasions where she gets steak.

my aunt would tell the server, "knock the horns off, wipe it's ass, and put it on a plate"
she would also say, if it's warm in the center, it's going back!

I gave a local steakhouse another chance last night.  I hadn't been there in a few years because I had a bad experience.
A farmer told me he didn't think Archies was as good as it used to be (my fav steakhouse) and said he preferred the Fireside
It was the night before Valentines so I cut them some slack but, I ordered my NY Strip rare, it was medium at best.  The server knew it when she brought it out.
I sent it back and got one that was rare.  It was much better but not even close to Archie's standards.
Only about an inch thick on a 12 oz strip just doesn't work well.
It was OK and had decent flavor but nothing special.

the service was great.  Server gave me 2 budweisers for my trouble.  Still a $100 tab for 2.

yea we eat free also.  I almost always order the lamb shank and chops but have them give me an extra shank and keep the chops. Also you are right they rarely change the menus at any of the specialty restaurants. While, not great we find the specialty restaurants to be at least a little bit better than main dining rooms. We never eat in the buffet.  Similar experience on our 36 day Mediterranean cruise, we ate numerous times at LaBistro and Cagney's.  We are by no means vinophiles,  but got to know one of the sommelier fairly well. Actually taught us quite a bit.,

I do my best to avoid wine on NCL, we get one "free" bottle at Le Bistro, which has always been ... mediocre.  My wife likes the buffet because it's more varied and their Asian selections are usually decent IMHO.  I talk her into the main dining rooms a few times on a cruise and they are OK IMHO.  If any of these were regular restaurants around here we wouldn't dine there ever other than maybe the cafe on occasion.  We dined at their Moderna which is a rather lame execution of a Brazilian steak house.  The lamb there is pretty good.  Maybe we were on the late side this time but the offerings were slim and slow coming, and they push their pork and chicken a lot.  The Fogo near us is much better, but of course pricier.

They were offering as a 'special' a glass of Chateauneuf for $25 and I bit on that, it wasn't very good.  Then there is the service change making it $30.  I'll pay that for a good glass of wine somewhere if it's actually good.

Anyway, it wasn't my favorite cruise, but it was OK.  We might go back to San Juan sometime soonish.

Our next trip is two weeks in Vienna.  I have to start planning soon, but I have taxes to finish also, which is a pain.

Can you not bring your own booze?

You cannot, literally, they check luggage and confiscate any alcohol in it.  Same with bringing it in on your person in any quantity.  It's doubly odd because they sell booze in their duty free shop, but you can only get it as you debark.  It's a rigged game.  I made the mistake on our first cruise of taking a nearly full bottle of Woodford and a bottle of wine (a gift).  Both were confiscated, I could have gotten the wine back for a $15 fee later, but didn't.

I think their money makers hinge on the casino and booze.  Maybe the rest is near break even.  I looked into their stock a couple of time as their ships seem always full but wasn't impressed, didn't buy any.
