I don't know how many here have driven "Tail of the Dragon", I drove it long before it got famous several times, in a car. It's actually pretty boring to me, very tight curves one after another, a very old grade that probably followed an old wagon road with little change to the grade. I drove it again maybe 20 years ago and it was almost solid bikes zomming about, still not interesting. The area is heavily wooded so there is not view except one turout which overlooks a lake. You just turn turn turn turn, could be in a gymkhana.
Beartooth is often credited with being one of the top drives in the US, and I'd agree. I've yet to do Going to the Sun, it looks awesome as well. I drove the stretch north of Sedona that gets a lot of credit and thought it was fine but not in the same class as the two above. The Tioga Pass Road would finish my top three. Yes, I've drive to Big Sur, it's a top ten to me.
The BRP south of Asheville would be top ten, for me. Cherohala Skyway is quite nice, new grade and all, but goes from nowhere to nowhere.
US 395 up the eastern slopes of the Sierra is quite nice I think. The Sonora Pass road is crazy with 26% grades, not that much to drive.
