you wouldn't be going directly through the core in order to connect SoCal with Asia.
The Asians might prefer that route.

I honestly can’t imagine how you could get by with just a carry on. The only time I’ve done that is when we flew from Houston to Dallas and drove back the same day ( we picked up a new truck ).

I never thought waiting for bags was much of a big deal. Maybe 20-30 minutes for them to hit the conveyor.

I’ve had to pay for bags with different carriers through the years. Seems like most charge around $35-50, not really a huge deal. I don’t travel often, maybe fly somewhere once a year, paying an extra $100-200 for bags on top of a couple grand for the other travel expenses seems trivial.

My sophomore year in college we were playing at Northern Iowa. The entire team's bags were lost. They didn't show up until just before we left the hotel for the game. Somehow despite all that chaos we only lost by 1. The UNI Dome was an awful place to play.

it was loud?
I've only been in there for high school state football playoffs
at least it had heat

I don't fly enough to be well versed on all the rules for carry-on.  Liquids and stuff, clear bags...I could read up.......
I just throw all that in the checked bag along with my pocket knife and don't worry.  Don't worry about lugging a carry on through the airport, rest room, finding room in the overhead bin, especially if there's a shortage of space and you're then forced to check your carry on.
much less convenient than waiting ten minutes after the flight - I usually hit the restroom and within 5 minutes I have my bag

That's the thing... When I was traveling frequently for work during my busiest phase, it was monthly at a minimum. Baggage claim time (and the risk of lost luggage) adds up when you're traveling a ton.

My "carry on" is just a small roller suitcase, which easily can fit up to a week's worth of clothes and my toiletry bag. That and my one "personal item", my laptop bag which can fit under the seat, and I have everything I need.

not many bags are lost
the wait at baggage is usually 10 minutes or so
Sorry but every time I have flown with someone who checked bags it has been longer than 10 minutes.

My distrust of luggage goes back to my dad.  He flew out to visit and his luggage never arrived.  Airline said they would find it and let him know.  Ultimately they told him it must have been stolen.  Nothing like arriving somewhere and having nothing then having to get everything new

It was a basketball game. There was no atmosphere at all. Just completely dead. The court was against one side of the permanent stands and they had portable bleachers around the other three sides. At halftime we had to walk all the way out of the dome to the locker rooms which meant walking through the lines to the concession stands. Just a terrible place for a basketball game.

The whole "caning" thing back in the 1990s was Singapore, not South Korea.

BTW I've heard Singapore is absolutely amazing and worth a visit. And yes, QUITE clean. Haven't had an opportunity yet though.
