Paris in springtime sucked.  Cold and cloudy and rainy.  No thanks.

Heck I've been in late May and it was still too cool for me.
I'll suffer the weather to avoid people.

Had a gorgeous week in Phoenix this week.   Two solid golf rounds to boot.   Cool mornings, warm afternoon.

Only two rounds?

What happened? You didn't make the cut?

I've been to the Phoenix Open it's not my cup of tea (supercharged bro fest/meatheads),  rather play when out there this time of year.    we do have a client with a very nice 'sky box' set up and that's a bit more subdued.

yup, a group of meathead bros want me to join them every year out there

I tell them I'd rather play

they say that they play 36 the day before and the day after

maybe if I could hook up in a skybox

My wife was concerned about the Boston trip because of the quick turn around leaving for Paris tomorrow, but at least the flight is late, 11 PM departure.  She agreed we had a good time despite the weather being so cold, we came back to 70°F weather. which we have today.  It reminded how much I loathed Cincy winters.  She gets a bit "rattled" before a big trip at times, nerves and whatnot kind of.  I spent time on the Interwebz searching this new visa requirement for Europe but apparently it's not in place, yet, apparently, their site is not very forthcoming.  Another way to get money.

Speaking of, I've spent over a grand on visas for our Asia cruise.  A search takes you to multiple visa companies who charge extra of course, it's not easy to find the government visa site, which is easier and cheaper by a lot.  I didn't figure this out until after I paid some bozos extra to do Korea for us.  This seems like a scam to me anyway, the visas come in a few days, not enough time for more than some cursory search of our backgrounds.

And they are only good for a month usually.  A Brazil visa was ten years at least when I had to get one.  I recall mailing my passport off to get it stamped, which made me nervous.

Yeah, when I was going to China the visa there was only for a year. They now offer 10-year visas. Apparently it's quite an involved process, where you need some sort of a "referral" type letter from a Chinese citizen. This was all for work, though, and they handled everything. It didn't cost me anything nor did I have to do any of the leg work.

I don't recall ever needing a visa to visit Taiwan, Malaysia, or Thailand.

Impressions of Boston ...

This was my second visit, the first we stayed at a friends house in the suburbs but toured a good bit.  This time we stayed in "Back Bay", rather close to Fenway Park and NE University.  The Museum of Fine Art Boston is quite impressive, I usually eschew art museums, I enjoyed this one.  The other one nearby, the Isabella Stewart Garner museum was ... a bit odd for us.  We had a lot of good food, some of the meals were part of our visiting group.  We had a nice tour of Music Hall where we later attended a concert with the Atlanta Music Director directing the BSO (Natalie Stutzman).  This was her directorial debut there though she had sung opera there several times dating back decades.  She was a contralto back when.  We enjoyed the concert a lot.

The buildings are fairly old in that area, there are some parks around that would be nice in spring.  I noticed a lot of young Asians, probably students at NE or the other Us in that area.  A Lyft to the airport was about $35 though it's close to downtown.  We walked otherwise.  It was cold but we noted some folks in shorts and a lot more in light coats while we were in heavy coats and glovers and scarves and hoods.  There were some homeless around which I thought a bit odd in the weather.  Maybe they found a shelter somewhere.

The streets are not in good shape, and oddly street signs were often missing, making navigation a bit of a chore.  There are some taller buildings dotted around, most are 4-5-6 floors apartment style.  We were near the indoor Prudential Mall with a lot of shops, another adjacent mall had high end stores, both were pretty crowded with folks, which I thought unexpected with malls disappearing.  This allowed us to stay inside walking in one direction at least.

Food was good but pricier than here.  Some places had a 3.5% surcharge.  We'd like to go back, maybe in June.

I got visas for Korea, India, Thailand, Vietnnam, and Sri Lanka.  Hong Kong doesn't require one.  Korea didn't last year.  Two Korean visas cost me $500 but that was before I figured out how to "do it myself".

I routinely visit Boston for work.

Tell everyone, never rent a car. Most walkable city in US.
Take the T in and out of Logan (even w the free  short shuttle bus from Logan to the T station).

The Seaport district is about the only 'new' part of Boston, south of the financial district,  and mostly owned by Fidelity.

Yeah some of the roads are hideous and still brick pavers.
North end is America's best Little Italy.

France is predictably dreary and cold.  Got into our apartment.   Feel ok.
