Worked in Atlanta last week. First observation is just how many sports bars are all over the metro area. Only Boston seems to have a noticeably higher concentration of sports bars. I was taken out as a client several evenings through the week, and each different sports bar was busy by about 6pm. Inside most everybody seemed to know each other, meaning the 'regulars' culture is strong. And a big portion of patrons were made up of working class Blacks getting off of work, catching up, and talking all things Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs.

Through the week I stayed in a hotel right near the airport. After finishing up little early on Friday I took a walk and came across a few uncommon businesses. First was Crew Outfitters - a store dedicated to pilot and stewardess uniform sales, mostly for Delta Air employees.

The next was a mortuary specializing in organizing the return of Americans who happen to pass away while overseas. I never would've thought of this as a needed business, but about five years ago I was working in the Balkans and an older technician from South Carolina died of a sudden heart attack on one of our construction sites. The government in Belgrade worked with the U.S. Embassy there to coordinate flying his body back to the States, and I guess a business like this would've received their call to arrange the details.

They are businesses you wouldn't think of on your own, but you realize their location makes sense near the Atlanta Airport - the World's busiest by passenger traffic volume since 1998.

We do have a lot of sports bars here.  The food is mostly prosaic, often the appeal is a lot of beers on tap and a lot of TVs.  I also see a fair number of regular restaurants that later on add TVs, not the better ones, but the midlevel ones.  There are a ton of college fans from the midwest and several sports bars are used by them for specific teams, informally I guess, so you have 4-5-6 "Ohio State" sports bars.  I went to one near me and it was full of Wisconsin fans on game day, another one a while back was full of Army and Navy fans they were pretty fun.

The mortuary above is interesting to me as my wife has stated she wants to be buried in France.  She says she'd like me to consider it as well.  It's an odd topic to me.

Why would she want to be buried in France if she doesn't want to live there?

They have family plots there.  It's important to her.  The plots are multiple, different from here, they can have 20 coffins in one plot (or more).

My sister is in the Georgia Military Cemetery because her second husband was in the Army (Vietnam).  He was a very very neat guy, I liked him a lot.  My father is in the same cemetery as is my mother.  I of course am not eligible.  It's in a beautiful location, if that matters, atop a hill in view of the mountains.

The mortuary business is just odd to me. I mean, it's a needed business, and SOMEBODY has to do it, but don't you have to be a little screwy in the head to go into that line of work? I don't think a lot of kids grow up saying "I'm going to be a mortician when I grow up!" But I guess the ones you do, you watch closely and if they don't become serial killers, you just be thankful they jump on that grenade for society...

As for my final life's travel, I expect it to be my cremated remains, spread with my wife's, either in the rose garden where we got married in Italy, or at the top of Haleakala... Unless we come up with something better in the [hopefully] many decades before it is a thing.

The last thing I want to do is have my corpse take up valuable real estate.

In some states, it's illegal to spread ashes in a public space, or so I've been told.  I think if one went out by oneself somewhere rural, it would not be enforced.

I wonder how many morticians go into that trade because their dad did it.

Booked our honeymoon cruise and all our excursions. The itinerary:

12/28 - Sail out of Tampa - I love going out of Tampa and sailing under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Such a cool experience.
12/29 - Sea day - I like having a sea day on the first day to just chill and enjoy the amenities on the ship before jumping into all the ports of call.
12/30 - Cozumel - I booked a VIP cabana package at Mr. Sancho's Beach Club. The perfect chill and be spoiled on the beach day.
12/31 - Roatan - A visit to the sloth and monkey sanctuary then some snorkeling.
1/1 - Belize - Cave tubing with Charlie's Cave Tubing Tours. He's a local guy who was one of the first to do the cave tubing excursions. He only takes small groups and makes it a personal experience. This will be the second time I've done a tour with him. I can't recommend him enough if you're in Belize.
1/2 - Puerto Costa Maya - Booked a trip to the Chankanaab pyramids with an afternoon at the Bacalar lagoon.
1/3 - Sea Day - A nice lazy day before having to return to reality.
1/4 - Disembarkation and a return to the real world.

Our cruise in March starts in Seoul and ends in Qatar.  I have to pay for that sucker in a few days, and then sort out excursions.  We will have circumnavigated the globe.
