They were releasing water we were told to try and kill off eggs of nonindigenous brown trout.

2-3 days in Sedona is enough.
Actually, as you said earlier, one day was enough for Sedona, that is about the time we spent in town.  The area around Sedona was interesting, to me, and the resort where we stayed was decent.  This is the road through Oak Creek Canyon from overlook:
