I could deal with ocean view, but not interior. No chance of that happening.

I took my wife on a cruise in the western Med first, I was not sure she'd like it, she did, for better or worse.  We went on one in the carib because it included Havana, which she wanted to see because friends told her it was great.  (It wasn't, Havana is a dump, that trip really was a bust.)  We then tried Alaska which was mediocre, not like the advertisements at all.

I concluded they are best for touching on spots difficult to access otherwise.  I'm not interested in any more Caribbean cruises, I'd rather just fly to "X" and stay there a week.  I don't particular want to see more Caribbean islands, I've seen enough already.

I am interested in Asia and Australia/NZ.  The mideast is "out" for obvious reasons right now, and we've seen parts of it last year.  And we're headed to Istanbul in September for eight days (not a cruise).  You might consider that mideast, but most of the city is in Europe technically.  And our friend will be there as a tour guide, oddly enough the name he uses sounds like "Tour Guy".

We looked at both types when the doors were open, they really are tight, and the "ocean view" types are hardly better in my "view" on NCL ships.  They have a fairly small window over the bed.  They are the same size otherwise.  When you go to "balcony", you get a small sitting area with sofa bed and desk and larger BR.  They are close to twice the size.

I suppose a king size bed isn't available on most cruises? Kills it for me.

Azamara has king beds.

Their ocean view rooms are the same size as the veranda suites. Club suites and above are a different story.

No interest in Alaska. Much interest in Korea, Japan (a couple of stops only), Taiwan. Maybe Hong Kong. Is it safe in Hong Kong?

I think they are all kings, we've never had anything but.  Maybe they are queens in the nonbalconys, I didn't notice.  They are queens or two singles in nonbalconys.

Hong Kong should be safe for tourists.  That of course can change if they start having protests.

yup

Alaska has always been on my list of places to visit
and I don't enjoy flying much

I also don't travel much so there are times I feel I should go somewhere

I think I'll just go to Florida and Texas to visit friends

I am going to the San Fran Bay area in January with the daughters

Our Alaska cruise was, well, disappointing, to me.  We visited some towns that were not as interesting as I imagined.  We took one helicopter tour to land on a glacier, that was OK, but pricey, and COLD.  My wife liked that.  For some reason, the glacier we were supposed to visit on the ship was dropped from the itinerary, and the glaciers we did see, from the ship, were quite distant, and a bit boring.

I had imagined something more ... dramatic I think.  If we return to Alaska, it will be "land sea" or just land.

yup, the commercials show signs of Whales, Killer whales, Ice Bergs, and cruising close to shore

I don't mind wearing a jacket, but most folks around here want warmer weather while on vacation

I feel like Alaska is calling to me. It's a bucket list trip. Not sure I want to cruise though. Might as well just fly up there and get a car and a hotel.
