Friday will be the second meeting between Nebraska and Florida. The Gators were the No. 9 seed in last week’s SEC Baseball Tournament, falling to eighth-seeded Vanderbilt in the opening round.

Monday’s selection marks Nebraska’s 18th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, and the 15th appearance in the last 24 seasons (excluding the canceled season in 2020). This is Nebraska’s second NCAA Tournament appearance under Head Coach Will Bolt.

I think the format is just about my favorite postseason tournament.  I know it will never happen, but Id love three straight weekends of 4 team double elimination regions.  But theyd never reduce the CWS to 4 teams

Florida got in by its chinny-chin-chin, going 1 game over .500, but with the nation's toughest schedule.
All Nebraska has to do is walk Caglianone every time and they'll win.  He's a monster, hitting over .400 with massive power and twice as many walks as Ks.

He's it.
Florida has zero pitching.  No other major hitting threats - everyone else hits .260 with average power.

Just walk him every time.

Yeah I really love the symmetry of it all.  A four team double elimination tournament followed by a 2-team best-of-three series, and then do that again in Omaha.

Of course, in the old 48-team field, the 6-team double-elimination regionals were just incredible.  Texas was fortunate enough to host a few of these and I was fortunate enough to attend them.  The excitement and wall-to-wall baseball was really great.

OSU is the slight favorite to win the Regional with +105 odds according to DraftKings. This marks the third straight season that the Cowboys have hosted a Regional and their 49th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, which ranks them fourth all-time.

NCAA Baseball Tournament Stillwater Regional odds

Oklahoma State +105
Florida +165
Nebraska +390
Niagara +4500
The Cowboys will have a couple of other tough Power 5 teams to contend with to make it to Super Regionals. Despite entering as the Regional’s No. 3 seed, Florida (28-27) has the second-best odds to take the Regional.

The Gators are led by slugger Jac Caglianone, who ranks sixth in the NCAA with a .415 batting average and fourth with 29 home runs on the season. He is only six homers shy of the school’s career record after recording a single-season high 33 during the 2023 season.

As for Nebraska, the Cornhuskers won the Big Ten Tournament and finished the regular season with a 39-20 record. Rhett Stokes leads the team with a .353 batting average, while Josh Caron leads has 16 home runs.

I followed UGA baseball a bit on line.  They are now hosting a regional.  I happened to notice a while back they had a decent overall record and remained out of the rankings, but they put on a bit of a surge and looked competitive.  Like Florida, they have one massive hitter named Charlie Condon.  The rest of the players seem to  be decent enough.  I hope they survive the regional.  They were knocked out of the SEC tournament very early.

Thunderstorms throughout the state today, might end up being tough to get in both games at the College Station regional.  Other regionals across the southeast might be impacted as well.
