Kennedy was a breeze for customs, it was the TSA line that was a pain. Pre Check, Clear, and regular at the Delta terminal all dumped into the same entrance of the queue maze, and everyone got the business. Nothing was gained by the line cutting programs.

Also, in said line, agents from LAN Airwys were calling for Santiago passengers. A woman confused that for San Diego, and kept insisting that she was on that flight.

My opinion of clearing customs at DFW is likely soured by having to do so with a sprained and badly swollen ankle.

O'Hare is good if Chicago is your starting or ending point, or if you don't have to clear customs. However, if you're coming from or going to a non-US airline, the number of potential failure points goes up substantially.

My wife and I did our best impression of the Home Alone dash on our way home from our honeymoon. Our flight on Lufthansa was late leaving Frankfurt due to fog, and by the time we landed we had less than an hour to clear customs, take the bus to the main terminal (the tram was out of service), clear TSA, and get to the dead end of the concourse where the United Express flying beer cans load. Fortunately United staff helped us as much as they could, and we did make it.

Going from Lufthansa premium economy in a 747 to the back row of a United regional flying beer can was a bit of a shock.
When we travel out of the country, we usually visit Chicago before and after, to see family, friends and hit the offices. So, for us, in that manner, it's very easy. We have Global Entry which makes it even easier.

Our last trip to Mexico, we did not do this. We flew RSW to DFW to Cabo, then back in reverse. I will never, ever again do this.

Coming back on a cruise ship is even easier.

The line is the southern end of the DMZ.
You went up there on a good day to see the DMZ. I went up there on the day after a typhoon had gone through Korea. The cloud deck was so thick that we could barely see the lines on the road.

My dad drove a tank somewhere on the DMZ in 1968. I presume the American encampments are well to the east of here, away from tourism central. Unsurprisingly, he maintained until the day he died that the next world war would start on the Korean DMZ.

The US 2nd Infantry division is now based south of Seoul, well back from the line.  The DMZ itself is literally "demilitarized", so in theory, nothing military is inside that belt.  The South Koreans have a zone south of the DMZ called "something security zone" or somesuch which we entered.  There isn't much visible to suggest a lot of defensive systems that we saw.

We were told there probably are more tunnels under the DMZ not yet found, they located four of them.  We toured the third.

How to visit the Korean Demilitarized Zone | CNN

I think this is worth visiting if you're ever in Seoul.  It cost about $160 per, including a visit to the palace in Seoul, and lunch.

In other news, we're off Sunday for a short trip up into the mountains, hopefully the weather holds and we can tour Brasstown Bald Mountain.

Norwegian Cruise says stranded passengers were over hour late to ship: report | Fox News

Yeah, show up over an hour late on a tour not provided by the boat and you're going to have a problem.

I'll be going to lovely Indianapolis for my first time ever in November, for the Marching Bands of America Grand Nationals competition.  Yay...

Indy:

Eat a steak at St. Elmo's, if you can get in. If not, they have a bar a few doors down that serves some of the same food. Shrimp cocktail is a must-eat at this place.

Honestly no time... Get in late enough tomorrow that all we'll be able to do is get checked in and grab a quick cheap late-night bite near the hotel before we crash. Wedding is Friday, and then our flight back leaves 6:15 PM Saturday. Whirlwind trip in and out.

I used to drive to Indy or Laville for flights, they could be much cheaper than flying out of CVG back in the day (Cincy, really it stands for Covington, Kentucky).

We're going to Waynesville, NC Sunday and then Greenville, SC later on.  Might even play some golf.  Not all that exciting, but it's a thing, and the mountains this time of year can be quite nice.

Prime 47 is a really, really, really good alternative if you can't get into St. Elmo's.

We had a shooting within one block of our house last night that resulted in IMPD going door to door looking for possible video evidence. Who says it isn't exciting?

I'd recommend 50 places before sending folks to St Elmos for dining in Indy even if the shrimp cocktail is without peer on the planet.

It's not a bad restaurant at all and bar is cool as is upstairs lounge.
