Austin is regionally known for this one, called the Pennybacker Bridge.

I drove over this one about 7 weeks ago.

Constructed in the 1980's, after the original one (below) was hit by a tanker and fell down.

I would not like being in this car. At all.

When I was a kid my maternal grandparents had a winter home (trailer in the Midwest, Mobile Home in FL) in Sarasota and my paternal-maternal great-grandmother was living in a nursing home in Saint Petersburg so we drove the Sunshine Skyway a few times. First we drove the original, then after the collapse we drove the way-too-small one half of the original.

My dad HATED that bridge and complained every time we had to take it but it saved something like 50 miles and one hour each way so we did. When it fell he pointed out that he never liked that "Rickety old bridge".

Yeah, I was on that one in the 1970's on vacations with my parents.

Back then, I wanted to drive over every bridge in the world.

Then I became a civil engineer.

A lot of people I know got the heebee-jeebies driving over the old 35W bridge. There was construction on the bridge at the time, and one of the primary tasks was to jack the whole bridge up and un-seize the pier bearing where the failed gusset plate was.

Messed up situation all around.

Same...at least for the first part.  Mackinac Island sucks.  But it's fun to drive across the bridge to the UP

My wife HATES bridges.  She closes her eyes when we cross them.  Her living her whole life in Pittsburgh with a fear of bridges is like Brody taking the Amity police chief job

We're going up to Mackinac Island in the fall, and one of the things I want to do is go across the bridge.
