South Florida is more comparable to a big east coast or Midwest city. They’d feel more at home in a large city like Columbus than some shanty little red neck college town in the Deep South.

I need to go to sleep, but instead Liberty turned the 4th quarter of a Boca Raton Bowl interesting, and now Grizzlies-Nuggets might be the most entertaining possible NBA matchup
hah, I watched Liberty Biberty until the end

the most entertaining NBA matchup won't keep me from sleeping

Yeah... I think SEC people are going to be severely disappointed in the way I exercise my fandom.

Air Force's win wraps the year for triple teams.

The Falcons got to 10 wins. They're 34-11 the past four seasons. It's kind of funny because Calhoun for a while was trying to escape and at times doesn't seem to be a particular evangelist for the triple. But he's there, and his defense was awesome.

Harder times elsewhere in that world. Army was fine, but not notably good. Navy was not fine, and now has a sort of pointless coaching change. Will be interested to see where they can turn for a new OC.

Similarly needed to get to bed last night but really got into Air Force’s ground domination of Baylor setting in during the second half of the Armed Forces bowl. Air Force wins 30-15 to go 10-3; Coach Troy Calhoun 121-78 in 16 seasons in Colorado Springs.

Announcers commented on how low temperatures were dropping, down to 11F, even saying this was the coldest bowl since 1958. With temperatures dropping lower across much of the rest of the nation, and the snow piling up, keeping millions of Americans home, and drinking, and in front of the TV, I’m wondering if the ratings for this game soared.

Bowls, as meaningless as they come across and for as poorly as they are attended, are nevertheless ratings monsters:

Is the independence Bowl the one who has seen its prestige drop the most during bowl proliferation?  Gator and Liberty probably in the discussion.  Maybe Citrus, even though It's still generally a top eight bowl. But depending on how the automatic tie-ins fell, in the 90s, through the four bowl BCS era, It was sometimes better than one of the big four

Sun Bowl?

I didn't know that Independence was ever a big deal. If that's the case, it's gotta be pretty close. A few years back, it was like the last or second-to-last SEC bowl teams wanted.

Also, I don't tend to trash places very often, but Shreveport is a deathly weird place I would not prefer to spend a ton of time. Oil town turned casino town is just an odd vibe. I will say, the difference between Dec. 23 (when the game is being played this year) and Dec. 26-27 (when it was played from 2014-2020) is absolutely enormous in terms of experience.

I think the Cotton has fallen off the most.  I think it gets grandfathered in a bit, but whatever year it went SEC vs Big 12 low seeds, it was down a peg or two.  I know it's in the CFP now, but for me, its reputationally not back to where it was.
.
What year did the Fiesta pass it?  Has it passed it back?
.
On non-CFP seasons, the Cotton seems kind of like a dumping ground with Western Michigan and Memphis having played in it the past few years.
