At this rate Purdue might gain more than 40 yards on the ground today!

No it  wasn't but it wasn't intentional either and the kid shouldn't get tossed

That's an argument about the rule. But the rule as it exists today was applied correctly IMHO.

The situation was weak.  That collision wasn't weak.  But it's football.  The QB lead in with his head, too.  I have no idea what the defender was supposed to do differently, aside from go against all coaching he's had since he was 7 years old and absorb the contact instead of instigate it.

Can't screw off his head there it kinda goes where the torso and feet take it

Idk, I played a lot of football when I was younger and a lot of the more closely-called stuff is easy - sideline collisions, late hits vs the whistle, PI on both sides......but the defender vs an oncoming QB is not one of them.  You're expecting a guy to just blindly predict if the QB is going to slide or not, duck his head or not, etc.

It can't be done.  You either guess right or you go against all previous coaching you've gotten.  Football can be made more safe,  but it can't be made totally safe.  This effort to make it totally safe is silly.

A&M is up 6-3 on Auburn in the 4th quarter.  They think it's 2011.

I know. But that's the rule.

Agree the defender basically couldn't avoid what he did. But he still went straight helmet to helmet.
