Still adjusting to this calendar of college football all the time. We've had apparently a record draught in central Ohio, but right now the winds are blowing and there is thunder in the distance. A bit of relief?

My wife went to Cleveland to visit her college roommate, so I am home with the kids, who are thankfully old enough to not want to bother me while football is on. I have a leg of lamb in the fridge, probably destined for the grill on Sunday. Tonight is taekwondo and the Hoosiers.

  • Duke at Northwestern, 9 pm, FS1

Nothing wrong with some bean soup.

Both the Horns and the Ags play tomorrow morning/early afternoon so we're keeping it easy with hot dogs, tater salad, pinto beans, and plenty of beer.

No Purdue to watch for me this weekend either. You know, MOST teams would want to take their bye later in the season, when they're banged up, when they need a little rest, and when they know who they are.

Nope. Purdue took it in week 2, when all the adversity they've faced is a cakewalk game against an FCS pastry where the starting quarterback completed 96% of his passes.

Very nice. I'm sure this week off will REALLY prepare us for a top-10 Notre Dame team coming into Ross-Ade next weekend :smiley_confused1:

But on to more exciting things. The menu!

Tonight is simple. Grilled pork tenderloin and a mushroom/spinach quinoa.

Tomorrow, we've having two of my wife's good friends over. So we're going to start with a caprese salad as an appetizer. Then we've got some nice filet mignon which I'll sous vide and sear, to be served with roasted red potatoes and grilled asparagus. Dessert TBD. Not sure if my wife has decided on that yet.

Sunday, we'll be doing Joanna Gaines' Fatayer, which I understand is a sort of Lebanese meat pie, along with a Lebanese salad. This will be a new one for us, trying it for the first time, so hopefully it works out nicely.

Send her up more often as right now it's raining pretty good and we are well behind average rain fall also

Meat and pie together, tough to beat that. I'm trying Meathead's lamb preparation, which finishes with a board sauce of rosemary, mint, and garlic. Tricky part will making sure I don't overcook it. Not sure on sides yet, definitely some potatoes of some sort. We'll see what's at the store.

I've done this one: https://www.food.com/recipe/leg-of-lamb-boneless-greek-style-34296

It was "fun" because I couldn't find a boneless leg of lamb so I got a bone-in leg from my local Persian market and had to debone it myself. That took some YouTube education and some spiffy knife work lol.

But it came out really nicely.

As with anything about overcooking, it wasn't an issue with a leave-in probe thermometer.

I heard taking the bone out is a real pain in the ass, so kudos. Costco typically has a boneless leg, and at 5 bucks a pound it was an easy choice compared to some of the beef cuts.

Cook it as is and eat around it - over the sink makes this easy-peasy

It wasn't terrible. It would have been without YouTube tho.

Why you taking  taekwondo, your clients getting surly? Don't they have cops for that? Or does your wife not like your chili?

If it's in Brazil and televised only on Peacock, did it really happen?

And since it's only on Peacock, I'm currently watching FS1 waiting on some nerd-on-nerd crime to begin in Evanston (or wherever the hell Northwestern is playing tonight--it's not Brazil).
