Yeah, I can recall getting actual paper tickets to see a movie.  Someone inside tore them in half and put their half in a box.  My GUESS is the studios checked numbers against comparable theaters to see if something was awry.  If so, maybe they sent an investigator.

I've seen one movie at a theater in the last 20 years.  There is an IPIC near us we chat about going sometime but never have.

Couldn't find the Tech Nerd thread so I'll put it here. How come with the surge of AI - Amazon making gobs of $$$ can't/don't/won't arrange translations for their customer service personnel? I don't get mad at them ,most really try and are somewhat tech savy,it's their facking overlords too cheap to arrange this convenience. It' seems like speaking latin to some lost jungle tribe /s, just to clear up what a native speaker would've sorted out in a minute :(

When did math become maths?

All my life, I’ve never heard it used this way until the last few years.

“I’ve never been good at Math”. “I study math”

Now it’s “I’ve never been good at maths” and “I study maths”.

At first I thought it was just slang but now it seemed to be how even educated people talk.

Maybe it's that it's short for mathematics, not mathematic?

Well, that certainly seems like a plausible answer. It definitely makes sense.

So tell me, did you ever remember people saying “maths” in the 80’s, 90’s, or 2000’s?

No, I'm with you that it seems new. Maybe that's just my perception, but I don't recall that usage being commonplace in the past.

Apparently it's also regional... "Maths" has apparently been the common usage for a long time in British English, while "math" is more common in American English...

It's how British people say it, so it's evidence of our pop cultures evolving together.

And maths makes sense, as there are many different math subjects (operations, geometry, trig, calculus, etc).

I did notice that it seemed to originate from the UK. I guess it became commonplace via SM.
