I agree Lanning is unlikely to bolt, but competing in the B1G will get tougher for them.

He's also pretty new as a HC.

I'm not sure why Lanning would leave Oregon for A&M.  He's proving he can be in the hunt for it all where he's at, why go to a cult on the chance you can replicate what you're already doing where you are?
well it’s been said he’s an SEC guy and ultimately wants to wind up back there.

A&M could also offer him a stupid contract- if they wanted to. And well as you know, bullshit walks and money talks.

And Phil Knight can match anything A&M puts out there, if HE wants to.

He doesn't really contribute to the athletics side.

Instead he founds entirely new schools of medicine, and builds numerous top-notch hospitals.

As much as I'd love him to drop a cool bil on the the football team, I think the work he's actually doing for the university and the community, is more important.

It can't be an either/or thing, though.

Oregon didn't magically start to matter as Knight started making it rain in $$$ there?

honestly would be unfair if he started pouring in money.

Texas already has the richest and most giving base of any helmet. They don’t need Dell’s money.

I'm not sure I follow, but if you're referring to Dell, there's no mandate of course, it's simply a matter of how he chooses to spend his money and support the community.  He COULD support the athletic side, but he chooses not to, and that's totally okay.  He's done incredible philanthropic work for the community both through support for the university's medical programs, as well as through his foundations, and building some incredibly top notch hospitals.  The company also matches dollar for dollar up to $10,000, any donations employees make, to approved charities (which is all of the major ones and tons of smaller ones, too).  And the company also allows employees to spend company time volunteering for any of those approved charities as well.  The charity work and community outreach, around the globe, is one of the things I'm very proud of, for the company I work for.

I actually agree.  As nice as basically "unlimited funds" might seem to be, I'm pretty sure we'd screw it all up royally. We already seem to waste a ton of booster money, I'd hate to throw any of Michael Dell's money into the mix.  It's being used better on much more important endeavors.
