The Ballad of Nubbs' Dirty Old Sock (SOC 11/27/21)
« on: November 27, 2021, 06:35:42 AM »
There is snow on the ground, and Christmas decorations are up. I'd put a fire on and really put on the full effect, but we have two new kittens that mostly run around the house going kamikaze on everything, and I'm not certain they wouldn't just jump in the fire.

It's the last day of the regular season. The Game is here, it's for real stakes, and there are calls for snow during the game. Sounds just perfect. What to cook? Doesn't feel like a cooking day two days after Thanksgiving. Feels more like a nachos day. Man, some fresh chips are always great. Maybe put together a dip or two. My oldest daughter got a job, but can't drive yet, so I'm on the hook for ferrying her. Better lay off the Christmas Ale.

36°F here in brilliant sunshine.  My wife wants an electric fireplace, I do not, emphatically not.  I put a fire off youtube on the TV and say there it is.

I decided not to buy a ticket to The Flats, I don't know why it's called that, and watch in the comfort of my home.

The Ohio State and Michigan bars would be a fun place to be hereabouts today.  I'm not sure how many there are, but quite a few.  We stumbled a few years back into a bar with a bunch of NAVY folks while they played Army, that was fun.  After that game I think the crowd transitioned to another fan favorite.

The sports bars here have pretty mundane and boring food items, several have a zillion beer taps which I don't need, after about ten it's just for show.  There is a fairly large on up the street called Taco Mac which has a billion TVs and taps, but mediocre food.  I bet somewhere has sports bars with actual food worth dining.

We have an electric fireplace in the bedroom. It's pretty nice, especially in these early dark days. The wife turns it on when she gets home from work, warms things up a bit.

In the bedroom would be a maybe for me, it's a large room, but not in the living room.  I still think they look fake and don't like'em, but she watches TV often in the bedroom under a pile of blankets.  The furnace is set to 74°F and she claims she's cold.

I suggested she not watch Dr. Zhivago any more.

Shades of the infamous Iowa goal post fiasco from 2002.

Very pleasant day here in MSP. High of 34 and clearing for a final series of buckets down on the Flats. As for the game, well, Jerry Reed once wrote in the Crude Oil Blues, "He who is expecting nothing ain't gonna be deceived!"

Currently 47 and rainy here in the ATX, high will only be a bit more, at 51.   Good day to decorate the house for Christmas.

Yesterday was 60 and sunny, glad I got all the outside decorations up then.

Menu today will be leftover turkey paninis with spinach, roasted red peppers, and gruyere.

And then we'll probably grab some Tex-Mex tonight, I'll be ready to get away for the house for the first time since Thursday.

Locked up the kittens and have a roaring fire and Christmas music on. Girls on decorating the tree. Peak Christmas feels.

I made some pretty good turkey and rice soup last night, and there is plenty left sitting out on the deck.

Supposed to reach 60°F today which works for me.  The Tech web site claims plenty of tickets left, but then directs you to stubhub.  Ha.

Should be high 70s and sunny all day. Got the outside decorations up yesterday and will do the inside today. Going to try to take the dog to the dog park, and maybe even to The Dog Pawrk (a brewery).

Menu tonight is black diamond marinated flank steak with brown sugar and balsamic glazed roasted mushrooms. May roast some carrots and I think we'll warm up some crusty bread and break into the wine fridge for some good red.

Last night was crab and pea risotto. Yum!
