We car pool kids to v ball practice and one of the Mom's (great lady, a little fussy) sends an email around asking the girls to start wearing better deodorant. :57: No doubt, hauling 3-4 teenage girls around after a sweaty practice makes for a ripe car ride.

like all other sports, these seasons last about two months too long.  Might as well end it in a giant convention center with 200+ courts.  This is why noise canceling headphones were invented.

Another year of high school recruiting for the Nebraska volleyball program has started off with a bang with a commitment from the No. 1-ranked recruit in the nation according to one web site.

Skyler Pierce, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Lenexa, Kansas, announced her commitment to the Huskers on Sunday.

She committed just four days after college coaches were allowed to start making recruiting phone calls to the 2024 recruiting class.

Pierce attends Olathe Northwest, where she’ll be a junior this fall and also plays basketball.

She’s ranked No. 1 in the nation by the website Prep Dig. In the Prepvolleyball.com rankings Pierce is ranked ninth.

Her club program, Dynasty, has several top-30 recruits in the 2024 class, and won a national championship last summer. Later this summer Pierce has been selected to a tryout camp with the United States junior national team.

Will need a new thread.   Big 10 w vball media days today and Tuesday.   I remember the old two hour conference call for the Big XII.  It was like 8 minutes a team, then the rest of the time was all Nebraska and Texas.

It didn’t take long for Kayla Caffey to find a new landing spot just one week after announcing she would leave Nebraska.

Caffey announced on Instagram that she will play her seventh and final season of college eligibility at Texas, joining former Husker teammate Keonilei Akana, who transferred to the Longhorns in the spring.

“I am moving to TEXAS! So excited to be joining the @texasvolleyball family for my last and final season! The amount of love and support that I have received from the volleyball community throughout this journey has been overwhelming and heartfelt. I cannot wait for this new journey! Let’s get to work! Hook ‘Em Horns!” Caffey wrote announcing her decision.

The Nebraska volleyball team was ranked No. 1 in the preseason AVCA Coaches Poll released on Monday.

The Huskers collected 1,538 points in the poll and came in ahead of No. 2 Texas (1,528), No. 3 Wisconsin (1,439), No. 4 Louisville (1,317) and No. 5 Minnesota (1,251). Nebraska got 24 first-place votes, while Texas had the most at 27. Wisconsin received 12 and Louisville had one.

It marks Nebraska's 101st week all-time at No. 1 in the AVCA Coaches Poll, the most of any program in the nation. The last time the Huskers were ranked No. 1 to start a season was prior to the 2016 season. Nebraska was last ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Poll on Sept. 16, 2019.

Nebraska has now been ranked in all 572 AVCA Polls all-time and has been ranked in the top 10 a total of 516 times. Both those marks lead the nation. It marks the eighth straight year that Nebraska has been a preseason top-five pick.

The Huskers went 26-8 last season and made it to the NCAA Championship match, where they fell 3-2 to Wisconsin. NU ended the year at No. 2 in the poll and returns five starters, including 2021 AVCA All-Americans Madi Kubik and Lexi Rodriguez. Transfer middle blocker Kaitlyn Hord also joined the fold after three AVCA All-America accolades in four years at Penn State.

NU opens the 2022 season this Saturday with the Red-White Scrimmage at 6 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Fan Day is set for 10 a.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The College Volleyball preseason poll is out. Let the games begin.

Defending national champ Wisconsin coach Kelly Sheffield has fired off the first salvo. Sheffield wants to be No. 1.

And he’s aiming at Creighton, Nebraska and Omaha.

Wisconsin, ranked No. 3 in the pre-season, hosts No. 15 Florida on Sept. 16. Sheffield has moved the game to the Kohl Center (17,230) for one specific purpose.

He wants to break the NCAA regular-season attendance record (14,022) set by CU and NU at the CHI Health Center in 2018.

“We’re trying to drive the sport forward,” Sheffield said recently. “I think we’re all looking forward to (Florida match) and, man, we really want to break that record.

Creighton coach Kirsten Bernthal-Booth said Monday she and Sheffield have had conversations about making it a public challenge between the two states.

Meanwhile, Booth and NU coach John Cook have spoken about pushing to sell out the match between the No. 1-ranked Huskers and No. 18 Jays on Sept. 7 at the CHI Health Center.

The games have already begun.

“We’re going after our fan base and the Nebraska fan base,” Booth said. We’re trying to get some groups, some high school teams in, group rates.

“We’d love to have some things go on between the state of Nebraska and the state of Wisconsin. We currently have the record. I hope it gets broken and I hope Nebraska is the state that retains it. It’s good for volleyball.”

Speaking after his team’s practice on Monday, Cook brought up Sheffield’s desire to own the record. And Cook was fired up.

“We need to sell out our (Sept. 7) match because

Wisconsin is going after the record,” Cook said. “We want that record to stay here.”

Cook wants it so bad he said he would be willing to move next year’s Creighton match to Pinnacle Bank Arena in downtown Lincoln. Previously, he’s been against moving a home match there.

This year’s NU-CU match was supposed to take place in Lincoln but Cook requested the move to Omaha because the 2022 NCAA Volleyball finals are at CHI Health Center in December.

He said the next two Jays-Huskers matches will be in Lincoln. At least one of those could be played in downtown Lincoln.

This could get serious. And fun.
