The '94 Huskers
« on: April 30, 2025, 08:52:51 PM »
I think the '95 Huskers get their due from everyone as being an all-time great team.
However, I feel like Nebraska fans hold the '94 team almost on-par with the '95 squad or even on equal footing.

Is that fair to say?  Were they as good just because it was finally Dr. Tom's first NC?
Or were they actually as good?

My opinion is that we all saw HOW they beat Miami, gut-punching them to death.  But while that Miami team was 10-1 entering the OB, their offense was kind of ass.  Great defense, don't get me wrong, but Frank Costa has a 1:1 TD to INT ratio.

That '94 team did hang a 70 on someone, and I distinctly remember the 24-7 utter beat-down of CU.  They survived the 3rd-string QB start vs KSU.

I'll still never understand how PSU got shut out of a share of the NC, but that's not the focus here.
What's the argument FOR the '94 team being held in such high esteem?
And is this an odd question for a 13-0 NC team? lol

I guess I don't know any Nebraska fans that consider the '94 team one of the top ___ (pick a number) teams of all time the way they do with the '95 team.

'94 had the moniker of The Finished Business season, due to the way they lost to FSU the year before. They were "great" because they won a natty, but not an all-time great.

the 94 team was a great team, just not as great as 95.

the 94 team didn't know how good they were - had a little question in their minds if they could go undefeated
the 95 team knew damn well they were great and used that swagger to their advantage

many of the 95 guys were seniors and had played the season before, they were just another season bigger, stronger, and more mature
the stats bear it out and the margin of victory in the games - the 95 team was just better

the 94 team does have the distinction of the 24-7 utter beat-down of CU - Osborne later said, it was the best or closest to perfect of any game he coached.

both their '94 and '95 teams are a lot better than their shitty overrated '97 team lead by a sissy drunk QB :)

you son of a B

nobody wanted to line up against the Husker teams from 93-97 - those 5 teams were physical - I'd still like to know the story behind that night in Tempe in 96.

Horns were more than happy to line up against the '96 Huskers.

they were lucky enough to pull a huge upset - not sure they were so happy before the game - they got one of the 3 wins - they had a plan and it worked - certainly VERY happy post-game

You serious Clark?  They got to play in the first ever B12 CCG.  You better believe they were delighted to be there, regardless of opponent.

That was a badass Longhorn offense.  Priest Holmes and Ricky Williams both in the backfield.  Money, G.

Priest had a great day - Ricky not so much
Frost was not a great passer

Ricky was a fullback, lead blocking for Priest.  I'd say he did alright.

Well, as we all know, the play of the game wasn't a toss sweep nor was it a fullback dive...

What was up with '94's ten-point win vs Wyoming?
