I'm doing a bit of everything this year.  

We will most likely be in Pittsburgh to visit my family next year, so we are hanging out with my brother-in-law and his wifes family this year up in Jacksonville.

They are a weird bunch.  They have 4 kids, don't drink at all, and don't stay up late.  They want to have turkey at 11 AM.  They ordered a premade feast from Whole Foods (despite my offer to bring my equipment and deep fry a turkey).  Because we will basically be there for breakfast, Mrs. Whiskey is making this for an appetizer: Maple bacon crackle

Should be interesting.  We will be back home early afternoon.  For dinner it's going to be rib roast with skillet potatoes and caramelized onions.

Definites
- Roast turkey
- Mashed potatoes
- Cranberry sauce

Definite but haven't picked out a recipe yet
- Gravy
- Dressing
- Some vegetable

I'll probably buy bread.  My wife wants to make mac and cheese and a pie.  Telling people to bring desserts.

I wonder if there's a map showing who calls it dressing and who calls it stuffing.  I grew up calling it stuffing in FL, but my extended family in GA all called it dressing.

Stuffing. When I hear the word "dressing" I think of salad or putting on clothes.

I don't know; sometimes being on this board is like herding cats- freaking hilarious but the potential for getting all scratched up is pretty high. 

I usually spend more time reading than I do posting cause I am certainly no genius with the X's and O's; I keep hoping to learn stuff by osmosis, but you guys are all falling down on the job with that, lol.  

In any case - this year my reaction to my Huskers' season is simply this:   :57: :91: so better off not saying anything at all.

I know one thing though. We like to play with each other. It's all in good fun. There is nobody here I wouldn't break bread or drink with. Or both. :72:

That crouton-based substance that goes in the bird is stuffing, not dressing. 

Nothing wrong with passing on turkey. Then again, I come from a family where rice is a staple, instead of something to be drowned in cinnamon and brown sugar.

The best turkey I ever ate was roasted on a spit over an oak fire under a temporary tent made of pole barn siding.  

GF and I are hosting supper Friday night with turkey and stuffing. But in lieu of mashed potatoes, we're having ravioli with red sauce, au gratin potatoes with 4 kinds of cheese I can't pronounce, and their family recipes for several desserts. 

For honestbuckeye: Yes, the ravioli is homemade. Cheese filling, some sort of blend of ricotta, cream cheese, and something else I don't remember. GF used the same mixture as lasagna filling. We experimented with using a filling rack to speed the process up. It might have worked, but the dough got too dry and wouldn't come out of the rack after it was rolled when tapped on the table. We'll have to use the dough recipe that came with the box. Unlike the stuff in the mixer cookbook, that recipe called for olive oil when the mixer one didn't. If anyone knows more about making pasta, I'd love to hear some advice.

I'm doing Alton Brown's (AB) Good Eats Roast Turkey.  I'm also doing AB's green bean casserole, and mashed potatoes, some stove top stuffing, Hawaiian dinner rolls warmed in the oven, plenty of gravy

and of course whatever the others would like to bring to the table

i just did a prime rib this weekend- i cut a chunk off Sunday morning and made an omelet... had another slice on a sub roll for lunch... and yet another chunk for dinner.  today, it was lunch and then dinner... i love prime rib, but enough is enough.. there is likely five or six pounds of the thing left.  

last year we had a huge group and fixed up two birds- one roasted and one smoked.  my wife makes it pretty good for roasting, and better than most anyone would agree- but that smoked one? it was history within minutes.  it was fantastic.  i mean really, really good- and i generally don't like turkey.  i highly rec a smoked turkey... to me, it's better than dunked by a wide margin.  

my special this Thursday evening is a 1996 Hoye De Monterrey Double Corona that has bloom galore and fading oils, meaning it's either peak or just past peak- quiet after everything settles, no work following day, children playing elsewhere but safe and happy- i tell y'all, there is a lot to be thankful for, and this little tradition is a good time to reflect on that.

I'm thinking we need to find 'Fro a B1G team to hop onto. He's here more than anywhere, and I'm thing he would look good in RED. As in BIG RED. Of course, who wouldn't?
