I don't think it's VY.

I think it's a rational strategy by HS and college coaches to win games.

In HS, you used to put your best athlete on the field at RB or WR. Now you put them at QB. Why develop a pass-first QB when you've already got a guy who can maybe throw a bit but can win you games with his legs? So you put your athlete at QB.

In college, you recruit what you have available. You may want that ultra-elite passing QB who can translate their HS success to the faster and more difficult level of CFB, but they're rare. And in the world of the transfer portal and NIL, you may not have time to develop that QB because if you don't start him day 1 he'll transfer. And if you start him day 1, he might be shell-shocked and fail. So you go the easy route and get an athlete.

You can go the other route. Get yourself a player with all the physical tools of an elite passer, and the pedigree. And then you end up with an Arch Manning who seems to have trouble processing at the speed necessary for high-level CFB QB play. And you've invested a couple of years in a guy who just might not be "the guy".

The QBs you want to see don't grow on trees. They're a scarce resource. So coaches recruit/play whoever they think give them the best chance to win games.

You're totally ignoring development.  There's a sliding scale of winning games and developing players for the next level.  Few players, but still.  
Cheesing the game and putting your best athlete at QB might win games, but it's not helping anyone looking to play QB in college.

A QB I want to see can be any kid with a big arm and is able to develop with game reps.  They don't grow on trees, but I have the sunlight and rain they need every day at practice.

I understand how we got here, I'm just disagreeing that it's good for the game.  They're playing street ball out there under the guise of RPO.  Hey, maybe it's the best strategy for success, but so is the BB-K-HR plan for batters in baseball.  It's not a fun thing to watch, imo.

Why bother with coaching if you stick your best athlete at QB and he takes off if the 1st WR isn't open?  Just start that in Pop Warner and never progress beyond it.

Ole Miss is doing enough on offense to come back vs Florida, but their defense is a sieve.  We're running for 250+ and maybe to 300+ with 9 min left.

Can be tough for high school coaches - if your whole game plan is having a quarterback who has college potential, you are probably SOL most of the time unless you coach at the creamiest schools of the crop.
