Even though both NFL officials they talked to said this was already the protocol bc otherwise means the teams on the field couldn't trust the clock on the field

They said on the turf it felt closer to 120.

I don't get how we delay games for lightning, but not for heat
We generally don't delay high school games for heat here in Phoenix area, but we stop the game at regular intervals for an officials timeout when the temp is really high to make sure the kids and us officials stay hydrated.

When I first read the URL I was hoping it meant that the band member was taken off life support because they were better, before I remembered that is never how that phrase is used.

That is awful.
I actually did the same thing, I guess we are optimists.

This is incredibly sad.

That's an extremely relevant point I brought up with CD earlier.  As for deferring to the clock in the feed, that's damaging to the optics, it seems, because that clock was clearly at 0:00 before the ball was touched, and thus dead.

I'm not sure, but I THINK they blew it, and it's now not reviewable.

Blech. Still annoyed at this. We actually got speedy replays and didn't have to watch 37 angles and five commercials to change a clearly wrong play.

Yeah, but there are plenty of people wondering why it took that video so long to come out

I was at the game and thought it was strange at the time that they completely cancelled all halftime activities.  Now it makes more sense.

That is very sad to hear.  Everybody was saying how dumb it was to start the game at 3:15  on a day with 95 degree heat and 105 heat index.  I know tv controls everything but Iowa should have had the option to either delay the start to after 7pm or start or move the start up to 9 am in the morning.
Iowa might have had those options, but w/o the telecast and therefore without the revenue to the Big Ten

Hopefully Iowa called the Big Ten office, and if they did, and were told to play, that becomes the worst offense the conference office committed Saturday.

Not sure how anyone can trust conference leadership at this point

In practical terms going forward, I'd opine the B1G has lost some, um, trust.  Michigan has a "loss" in the minds of many.   If they somehow finished 10-2, folks will regard it as 9-3.
