That's a cool site.

Looks like the base trim levels for the Taco, the Chevy Colorado, and the Ford Ranger, all cost about the same.

Yeah, domestic brands more often sell at discounts to MSRP or have other incentives.  I don't know much about this type of truck, but I'd check each variant out.  When I see them in a parking lot my first impression is they are full size trucks.  

There is a Tahoe in our building parked next to a neighbor's car, my wife thinks it's some monster.  I tell her it's not even a Chevy Subdivision.

Tahoes are a nice size.  Suburbans are a little too big even for me.

Those midsize pickups are tiny.  Can't tow anything worth a darn.

My son has a couple of friends who now have pickups, so he's taken to borrowing mine when they go hangout together. 

I get his Mustang in the trade so I'm okay with it.

I am sad that I've now lost access to my daughter's convertible Mustang, since she took it with her to College Station.  That was always fun to borrow for morning weekend cruises before the sun gets too high.

A Colorado can tow up to 7,700 pounds according to the specs.

I agree about the Mustang, I still ponder a used GT convertible.  I like the looks of them, and they are decently practical, and can have a manual.

7700 is for the diesel.  The turbo gasser is only rated to 7000 lbs but adjusted for a safety factor of 20%, is only 5,500 lbs.  And diesel or not, I definitely wouldn't tow anything over maybe 5,000 lbs with that chassis.  Which means you're not towing much of anything.

By comparison my towing capacity is 12,500 lbs, adjusted down to 10,000 for my 20% safety factor.  My RV trailer wet and loaded is around 8,500-9,000 lbs. 

Definitely not sporty.

Our Tucson is rated to tow 2,000 pounds .... which isn't much...

I guess I could tow a popup camper, which my wife would NEVER want to see.

OK.  It doesn't change at all what I've said.  Anything over 5,000 lbs with that chassis is asking for trouble.  There are towing accidents all the time, with folks who believe the tow ratings are gospel.

Wet and loaded an average popup camper will meet or exceed 2,000 lbs.  And I definitely wouldn't tow up to the max tow rating on any modern car-based SUV.

I don't have a tow hitch, so .... 

I saw something years ago about how tow ratings are generated, it was interesting, kinda, some long hill out west.  I'd be worried about brakes for one thing and have the vehicles get into a standing wave.  Seems like it could be rough on the engine going up hill, and then maybe folks also tow near max AND put four people and luggage in the vehicle.

Yup, weight in the towing vehicle adds into the GCWR and thus the trailering capacity.
