That might have kept up with a Ford SHO, but I doubt it.

5.7L Tuned-Port Fuel Injection (TPI) V8 engine producing 230–235 hp
0-60 MPH: 5.6 Seconds
1/4 Mile: 14.4 Seconds @ 96.0 mph
Top Speed: 150 mph



1989 Ford Taurus SHO. 

3.0L Yamaha-built DOHC V6 engine producing 220 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque
From a standing start, it can reach 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. 
Its top speed is a hair-straightening 143 mph

The larger engines back then often produced a lot of low end torque even if hp figures were lowish.

I think around 1978 was the nadir of horsepower.  It started creeping back with fuel injection which solved some emissions issues.

84 Vette made 205 HP. That's what I was looking at.

It was a dog, and it was and still is very ugly.

I will agree on the 84.  It was great in the corners and on the skid pan.

My former business partner (founding member with me) has a 1982 Corvette pace car with 14K miles.

It's a dog.

Not sure why he bought it. Neither is he, but he's stuck with it (paid way too much).

I wouldn't mind having one of those (pace car or not) if I had too much garage space

the weak motor can easily be rebuilt or exchanged with a powerful crate motor - gotta be able to do burnouts and it's gotta sound better

well, that's fine because I'd guess he's not going to drive it either.

unfortunately, it's not a great collector that's a good investment.
