Obviously, I lean towards "fun to drive" small sporty cars with manuals, even if they are fairly slow.  I'm slow anyway.  I appreciate what the engineers have done with the 'Vette, it really is amazing, two core engines one flat plane high revving, one pushrod "old school" and large, still with fairly decent fuel economy.

I could never have dreamed up such a thing 20 years ago.

These don't have the best reputation amongst sportscar enthusiasts.

Sporty?

These on the other hand have an excellent sportscar reputation, and a dominant pedigree in rally racing.

Sporty.

I wouldn't want either of them
I could easily kick the fog lights off the top one

Archive Road Test: 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT

The difference between the Fiero and its arch rival, the Toyota MR2, is the difference between an ax and a scalpel. The MR2 is light, agile, accurate, and effortless in a way that makes even toddling around in downtown traffic enjoyable. The Fiero GT, by comparison, is ponderous and reluctant.

The necessary big fix, of course, is new suspension and steering equipment, and both, we're assured, are in the pipeline. But from the start, the heat really hasn't been turned up as high as it should have been. We can understand such straightforward business decisions. It's just unfortunate when a company decides to spend its money engineering something like a light-up rear nameplate, rather than honing a sub-par clutch linkage, making the instruments easier to read, or working up a rear wing that doesn't block so much of your view.

A real problem with those cars exceeding ~100 mph is they start thinking they are airplanes.  The front end starts to lose contact with the ground, an item which can be important.

Another real problem with those barges going that fast was trying to stop them.
