My cousin had a nice Mustang some years ago, something close to that blue color, but a bit deeper, and it was a convertible.  She came over to Austin from Houston and wanted me to drive around a bunch, because due to a convoluted story I don't entirely remember, she needed to put 3000 miles on it in a hurry.

I explained to her that she was not going to hit 3000 miles just by visiting Austin and having me drive it all over the place for the weekend.  But, I sure had fun in her Mustang out in those hills!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY CORVETTE! It was 73 years ago today on January 17, 1953 that Chevrolet introduced the world to the new Corvette at the GM Motorama Show held in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria hotel.

Adding another reason for our friends north of the U.S. border to buy an eighth-generation Corvette, the highly regarded Chevy sports car has just earned a J.D. Power 2026 Canada ALG Residual Value Award.

Corvette was the leader in the Midsize Premium Sporty Car division, based on its ability to retain its value over the years.

According to J.D. Power, “Residual value is a key metric for both consumers and automakers because it reflects long-term vehicle appeal and brand stability. Brands that consistently deliver strong RVs demonstrate confidence in product durability and market strategy, which can influence residual values and customer loyalty.”

Supporting that argument is the fact that General Motors earned nine segment awards between its Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac divisions.

Joining the Corvette from Chevrolet were the Tahoe, tied for the win in Large SUV, and the Silverado 3500 HD in Large Heavy-Duty Pickup.

Winners at GMC included the Yukon, Hummer EV SUV, Hummer EV Pickup, and Savana commercial van.

Tops for Cadillac were the CT4 and CT5.

In the 2026 model year, 13 automotive brands received honors across 26 segments. The selection process involved a comprehensive evaluation of 294 model lines, factoring in used-vehicle performance, brand trajectory, and overall product competitiveness. To quality for a brand-level award, manufacturers needed entries in at least four separate segments. To ensure fairness across varying trim levels, model averages were weighted according to each trim’s share within the full model lineup.

“Brands that consistently retain higher RVs have a broad vehicle line-up that appeals to many customers and with that, do not over-complicate their vehicles,” said Danny Battaglia, managing director of ALG customer success at J.D. Power. “Additionally, pricing plays a big role here. Staying competitive in the market while maintaining their reliability and emotional appeal ensures the top brands stay at the top.”

https://www.ktiv.com/2026/01/20/driver-cited-going-104-mph-closed-interstate-during-zero-visibility-conditions/

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live/Gray News) - A driver was cited for traveling more than 100 mph on a closed interstate in North Dakota as wintry weather impacted the region.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the driver was traveling 104 mph on Interstate 29 on Sunday, even though the highway was closed due to weather conditions.

The stretch of I-29 is normally an 80 mph zone.

The driver received a $140 citation and seven points for speeding.

A minor passenger was in the vehicle at the time of the stop, state troopers said.

The driver also was charged with reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, according to authorities.

Police closed I-29 from Fargo to the Canadian border because of the zero visibility over the weekend, but the road reopened Monday morning.

Pricing Now Set for the 250 Limited Edition Stars & Steel Corvettes

While the dealer memo didn’t specify what that package price would be, leave it to our friend Rick Conti to sleuth it out of GM’s ordering system. Remember that the Stars & Steel package will be offered across all models of Corvettes from Stingray to ZR1X and they will only be available with the 3LT/3LZ trim group. That’s the MSRP of the car and then RPO USA (how cool is that) is the Stars & Steel option which will add an additional $9,995 to your order price.

The RPO USA includes all the options and graphics that make these limited edition Corvettes unique. The Arctic White Stars & Steel Corvettes have to be ordered with the Santorini Blue interior and they will get the Satin Silver tonal American flag-inspired full-length stripe and graphics. The Black version must be ordered with an Adrenaline Red interior and they have the Satin Black tonal American flag-inspired full-length stripe and graphics. The USA package also includes Black Wheels, Edge Red Calipers, Red seat belts, special floor mats, exclusive sill plates, and the numbered interior plaque.

My wife drove most of the way back from Florida, I was musing (again) how popular these compact SUVs are out there.  Sedans are about gone these days.  There are of course quite a few trucks, one group of them were pulling trailers enclosed that I surmised contained race cars of some ilk.  There were times when every car in sight was a CUV.

I "get it", we own one now to my chagrin, but it still seems somehow ... unholy or something.
