I remember that exact issue of Road & Track.  Or at least one exactly like it with the same comparison of the same two models, maybe a couple of years later.

My 1986 Chrysler Laser XT Turbo was 0-60 in 8.5 seconds.  Sporty!

That's the car.  Mine was black, with black tinted windows and black leather interior.

Back in the 80's I thought all the louvres so many rear windows had looked cool.  Now I see them and think I'd hate what it must do to the visibility.

Yeah mine didn't actually have the louvers, just a black-out tinted rear window.  I've never driven a car with louvers, that I can recall.  I do think they look cool, especially on some specific models and years.
