They're beautiful.  Well, a lot of them are, anyway.  Rolling artwork.

But still, I'm more partial to the 60s...

Actively looking for my 15yo son's car now, and we went to a Hyundai dealership to test drive a used Toyota GR86 they had there, but then also ended up test driving this car and we really liked it.  It's definitely sporty...

Yeah, he loves the idea of being able to cart around his crew in comfort.  He also really likes the Dodge Charger for that reason.

National Corvette Day is celebrated annually on June 30th. It was officially designated by the United States Congress in 2008. The day recognizes the Corvette's significance as a classic American sports car and its impact on the automotive industry.

It's ironic to me of course how the Corvette started out.  I like Corvettes quite a bit.  I think a lot of the improvements over the years were driven by Jaguar, at least, when the XKE got something like disc brakes, the 'Vette soon followed.

I don't know what to think about the recent models with over 1,000 hp.

They're "halo cars". They're really not meant for mass production... Chevy apparently had 302 orders, total, for the 2025 ZR1. Compare that to about a total production of 42K 2024 Corvettes, and the ZR1 spec is in the order of 1% of production, of a sports car that is already a low-volume model--the Corvette in total seems to be about 1.5% of Chevy's annual sales volume in 2024. They don't exist "to be purchased", although of course small volumes are made available for sale to prove it's a real car.

Consider them basically marketing for the Chevy / Corvette brands in general. They're going to get tons of attention in the automotive rags, they're going to be the sort of car that some young teen buys a poster to put on their wall, etc. They're about generating attention, which then [hopefully] translates into sales of Corvette / Chevy in general.

I get the marketing angle, clearly, but I personally don't know what to think about them.  Were I in the market for a Corvette and had lots of money to buy any model, would I get a LT3 regular Corvette convertible?  Probably.

Would I be tempted by a Z06?  Slightly, but now it's a slowpoke.

Fair, but that's true with any car. Do you go for the top horsepower/trim level, or do you go with less? This is even true with a Honda Accord--different price and performance points for different preferences / budgets.

There's also the "put something really pricey on a menu to make something lesser seem not as outrageous" idea here... The Stingray starts at $68.3K. The Z06 at $112.1K. The ZR1 at $173.3K. The existence of the ZR1 model makes a 6-figure car like the Z06 seem, if not sensible, at least a little bit less outrageous.

If money is truly no object, you might go ZR1. But that's not true for most buyers, so they segment the model performance/cost levels to try to hit multiple preference/budget ranges.

Usually, the price spread on a given model is maybe $10,000, or so, at least on "normal" cars, and you start to add usuable functional items, or at least convenience items.  We got the top of the line Hyundai because the hybrid piece has more horsepower, and my wife wanted cooled seats (which i didn't care about, but they actually work pretty well).

I know Porsches have a very large price spread, so it's not unique for Corvette.

I don't think I'd want a 1,000 hp Corvette even if I could afford it.  I might like a Z06 because the exhaust note is so different.

If I wanted a Cadillac Blackwing, I'd get the smaller CT4 instead of the CT5.  I kinda do want one, with a manual.

yup, I think about a Z06, but really wouldn't want the ZR1 to drive on a regular basis - maybe if given to me I'd take as a collector

500hp is capable of getting me in plenty of trouble

Yeah, there's a much different spread... A Corvette will have a bigger spread than an Equinox, and a 911 will have a bigger spread than a Cayman. Because you only truly design a "halo" car in those sorts of categories.

True--if I was going to spend $175K on a car it probably wouldn't be a 1,000 hp Corvette. It might be an Aston Martin.

But I'm not sure I'd want that either. I might spend half of that and buy myself an Ariel Atom, a truck, and a trailer, and make it a dedicated track car. 1000 hp might be cool, but I'll bet that Atom would be FUN.

I know Fearless doesn't have any good tracks nearby, but... You do :72:
