I won't buy a Tesla, ever.

But not because I'm a conservative.

One of my Liberal West Coast family members just sold hers at a tremendous loss. It was 9 months old.

I hesitate to say I won't buy an "X" ever.  My preferences have changed a lot over the years.  I'm sure in 1996 I thought I'd never buy a Hyundai.

I'd buy an EV if I thought it was the best choice for us, and charging wasn't so expensive.

Actually this is one of my concerns with BEVs in general. Because so much of the BOM cost of an BEV is battery, and because battery chemistry keeps improving, the price of new EVs is being driven down not just by MERE depreciation, but by the fact that used BEVs have to compete with new BEVs that are cheaper today than when the used one was new several years ago.

However, this concern can somewhat be mitigated by buying a used BEV, not a new one. Which quite frankly is how I purchase all my vehicles; let someone else take the bulk of the early depreciation. I usually want to keep my cars 10+ years anyway, so holding resale value isn't THAT huge of a consideration personally...

Getting a slightly used car is generally the best option out there.  I've rarely seen one that fit my needs though, I did buy two "dealer cars" with about 4,000 miles on them, they were fine.

Sold my GT 63s AMG today and bought this slightly used BMW M440i for my gal.  She deserves it.

Ya been my MO for over 3 decades, only bought 1 new vehicle a Corolla, got 16 plus years before rust started systematically taking it, In retrospect should have parked it as the engine was just breaking in around 140,000 had a compression test done and it was still tight

I think if you want a Tesla, a 1-2 year old model would be a "good deal".  I'm still hung up on away from home charging costs.  And we only drive about 6,000 miles a year at better than 30 mpg, so I use less than 200 gallons of gas a year, maybe $600 worth, not really a major expense.

Tested: 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport Is Euro Minus The Sport

What passed for a sporty sedan, in a sense, back when.
