The 39 Best Car Movies Ever Made, Ranked

4. Two-Lane Blacktop (1971)

Monte Hellman’s classic (and classically quiet) road movie about a Driver (James Taylor), a Mechanic (Dennis Wilson), and a Girl (Laurie Bird) racing a man in a GTO (Warren Oates) cross-country is the kind of moody, beguiling movie you want to see over and over again — and which reveals a little more upon each viewing. Co-written by Rudy Wurlitzer, the film is not exactly a metaphor, not exactly a drama. Instead, in the occasionally perplexing interactions between these characters, it creates a strange little ecosystem of competition, codependence, resentment, and alienation. But most unforgettable are the fantastic driving sequences and the almost casually riveting performances — with James Taylor making for a perfectly intense (and surprisingly charismatic) lead, an ideal foil for the garrulous, slightly helpless Oates.

The Pontiac Fiero could have been a true legend in the automotive world, but a series of unfortunate fires and lack of serious sports car power tarnished its reputation.
Despite these setbacks, the Fiero was known for its superb handling, and it proved its mettle by setting the record for fastest pace car to pace the brickyard.  It didn't do it with power.  It pulled it off with HANDLING.
Let's dive into some interesting facts about this almost legendary car. (10 Quick Facts).
First of Its Kind: The Pontiac Fiero was the first rear mid-engine mass-produced car by any American manufacturer. It was also Pontiac's first two-seater since their 1926 to 1938 coupes.
Innovative Design: The Fiero featured non-load-bearing composite body panels and a chassis structure that contributed to its lightweight and unique selling proposition.
Fuel Efficiency: Originally conceived as a fuel-efficient commuter car, the Fiero's 2.5 L Iron Duke engine could achieve 31 mpg in the city and up to 50 mpg on the highway.
Indianapolis 500 Pace Car: The Fiero 2M4 was the official pace car for the Indianapolis 500 in 1984, making it the first four-cylinder car to pace the race since 1914.
Car and Driver's Ten Best: The Fiero 2M4 made it to Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1984, highlighting its popularity and performance.

Anyone can google, it's more fun to come up with it on our own.

I always liked the Fiero.  It probably could have used a movie, too.  Something with Tom Cruise in the mid 80s would have really cooked.

It's a bit odd to me that I can't think of a movie that featured a Corvette to any significant degree.

One of the best interiors ever put in an automobile...
The 1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 4-Speed was pure muscle with a little bit of ‘70s flair.
This was the year Pontiac gave the Trans Am a serious attitude adjustment. The front end got the new "Endura" nose with a more aerodynamic look, while out back, the famous shaker hood still let that big 455 breathe. And let’s not forget—the ‘73 model was the first to wear the now-iconic “Screaming Chicken” hood decal. Love it or hate it, it became a legend.
Under the hood, the 455 cubic-inch V8 was the star of the show. The base version made 250 horsepower, but the real beast was the Super Duty 455 (SD-455). If you were lucky enough to get one of these, you had 310 underrated horsepower and a pavement-ripping 390 lb-ft of torque. Matched with a 4-speed, this was one of the last true muscle cars of the era before emissions choked the fun out of everything.
Pontiac might have been under pressure in ‘73, but they sure didn’t back down. The Trans Am was still a bruiser, still loud, still proud, and still ready to run.
