I looked at trying to nab one of these. VERY expensive.

I had a roomate in college who bought one of those Can Ams.  It was markedly slow.

And didn't handle well of course.  It did use a lot of gas.

And was ugly.

And cramped inside.

The mid70s-80s didn't have many "sporty cars" at all.  A few had some horsepower (GNX) but were built on old platforms with things like solid rear axles.  I was driving a slow minivan with a 5 speed gearbox.

My last semi-sporty car was a 1973 Nova with a 350 that would do 0-60 in 8.5 seconds.  My little CUV is quite a bit faster (7.1 by the mags).

I doubt a modern Viper would match an equivalent Corvette.
