Not sporty.

Saw one of these yesterday. I didn't try to race it.

It's interesting how much emphasis folks place on quarter mile times.  I get it, it's a thing, but for me, driving enjoyment is more important.

The ZR1 gets to 60 in a bit over 2 seconds, so just about anywhere in the US you are extra legal in 3 seconds at full throttle.  Enjoy that?

I know it also turns well, but I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy another kind of car a lot more.

Lotsa people like to drag race.  It's really the only kind of racing you can do, in your own car, out there on the streets of your city.  It's unrealistic for the vast majority of folks ever to get their hot rod out on a racetrack,  but anybody can plop down on a quarter mile of open asphalt and do their thing.

Burny wants one of those things as his bug-out/zombie killing rigs.
I passed one out in Nebraska a couple weeks ago going west
Impressive size and mass
think it had Pennsylvania plates, pretty young woman driving

Lotsa people like to drag race.
I'm sure some folks do, but it's pretty rare around here.  What some like is a car with a loud muffler.  Yay.

But let's imagine the very rare ZR1 pulls up beside a very rare Lambo and both take off, say in a suburb.  How often does that really happen?

If you can afford a $200+ K car,  you can afford some track time.  And maybe lessons.

For me, I'd have more enjoyment in a Miata if I could fit in one.

Might be an "influencer."  Lots of young people out there traveling in RVs, vans, converted school buses, and the like.  And of course recording it all for social media.

perhaps, this thing is impressive, not your typical RVs, vans, converted school buses, and the like

looks like something from a movie set - something for Rambo or another ex special forces hero coming to save the country

Yeah, plus it might show them how painfully slow they drive a fast car since it tests your abilities much more than a drag race. A road track will VERY quickly expose you if you don't have the skills, when you can't keep up with someone driving a much slower car than what you showed up in.

Drag racing doesn't tell you anything. ESPECIALLY now that manual transmissions are all but dead, and a lot of these cars also have launch control features. It's not to see who the faster driver is... It's who's got the faster car. The driver's just sitting there pushing the accelerator.

(Note: I'm not saying actual competitive drag racing doesn't take a bunch of skill... I'm saying the version any layman is doing doesn't.)

much street racing is rolling from 50-60 mph or so
pull up next to a fast car on the freeway and count 1-2-3

Why does it need to "tell you" anything?  It's fun.  It's fun to drive as fast as you can, even if you're not that skilled at it.

People who aren't particularly fast runners, still like to race one another.  People who aren't particularly smart, still like to compete at trivia games.

Good Lord don't tell me you're joining CD and the Anti-Fun Grumpy Old Men Brigade???

you can easily get "shown" your incompetence for driving or lack of balls driving on the street

it's usually got everything to do with lack of experience - most folks just don't push the limits very often because it's dangerous as hell and the consequences are harsh

I dusted a Charger off the line to 60 MPH yesterday. That was fun. All wheel drive really helps.
