I read an article in June, or listened to a news story in June (my poor memory) that said that 35% of nursing home residents were vaccinated with the most recent COVID-19 vaccination, and due in part to low vaccination rates there was a projected July surge.
It is now July. I stopped in Reddington Beach the weekend of June 28-30. When I returned to Iowa, my sister-in-law, who is treating for breast cancer, who I met in Reddington Beach tested + for COVID-19 when she returned to her home in Tucson, on July 1. She got it in Fla. They were there for a month.
My 90-year old mother, and 65-year old sister, traveled from Arizona to Iowa on July 3, 2024. They attended a superspreader event, Indiana Fever @ Phoenix Mercury on June 30. (They did not see my sister-in-law before departing to Iowa).
I met my mother and little sister, July 4, 5, and 6 in Iowa. Mom was coughing up a storm on July 4. I asked her about COVID, and she said she brought a home test. She didn't test until today, July 7. Both her and my sister tested + for COVID-19 on July 7, after I met them 3-consecutive days. We thought it was allergies, and it wasn't. The ARNP did not recommend Paxlovid since mom seems to be getting better.
My daughter who works at a medical clinic in Dubuque said one of her co-workers tested + last week. COVID-19 is surging, and all over the country. I am asymptomatic despite all the exposures the past 10-days. This version of COVID-19 is muted, but it is surging.
