Rutgers (1-1, 3-1) at #2 Michigan (1-0, 4-0) Post Game
« on: September 18, 2023, 07:30:59 AM »
it's rivalry week people! bitter rivals Michigan and Rutgers face off in Ann Arbor. Jeem's first game back from suspension, B1G season opener for Michigan as well as homecoming.

Michigan opens as 26 point favorites. For the first time all season I think they cover. Jeem will be back on the sidelines, think that'll give them a little juice, it's B1G opener, think they finally have the starting 5 OL solved, and doubt that JJ will be complete hot garbage two weeks in a row. have a feeling he's going to have a fire lit under his ass this week.

My initial take is that Rutgers has been playing better than anticipated so far this year so the game will be closer than the spread indicates.

part of me was thinking that, but then it is the B1G season opener, JEEM is coming back from suspension, it's home-coming, and JJ will have a fire lit up under his ass methinks after that shitshow he pulled last week. Henderson at LT and Barnahrt at RT looks like the play at OL. Tyler Morris looks like the play at return man. Think they lock those in going forward. Starters in the secondary should be back. I think this is the week they ramp up and start clicking. THINK. Which means....Rutgers should be in for an absolute molly-whopping.

Rutgers success rate about even with VaTech. Michigan had a crazy high success rate but game was closer than it should've been because: turnovers.

really think they clean stuff up and this is their "get right game".... Jeem back on the sidelines, will have 'em dialed in. I think they are going to murder Rutgers this weekend.

Corum's stats are basically identical to this point last year vs an equally weak OOC slate. OL looks set now with Henderson at LT and Barnhart kicking back out to where he belongs and started last year at RT. Thank Christ RT Myles Hinton is on the bench now.

Have a feeling this is the week that Donovan Edwards gets it going and he has a huge game. I also expect JJ to be flawless and not play like an absolute shitbag two weeks in a row, especially with Jeem back on the sidelines.

this is why I think Michigan could be something special this year....not even JJ leveling up or the RBs....it's that defense. right now they're giving up 5.3 PPG, but remove 4th QTRs where they haven't played a single starter and they're giving up 2 PPG and 72 rushing yards on 60 carries. That's 8.0 yards per quarter and 1.2 yards per carry. That's pretty gnarly, regardless of who you're playing.

This has been without playing starting CB1 Will Johnson, starting FS Rod Moore, and starting SS Makari Paige yet- who by the way are all very good players and future NFL draft picks.

I don't think Jesse Minter was lying when he said this defense will be better than it was last year or when Jeem said this could wind up being the best defense he's ever coached. They rotate 3 guys at ILB and basically have 3 starters for 2 spots there. Hausman from the portal was a blessing, he's a flat out stud. Junior Colson, stud. Mike Barrett really solid 6th year college LB. They have never had a DT room as deep or good. Kris Jenkins and Kenneth Grant are going to be first rd NFL draft picks one day. And Mason Graham might be a better college player than either of them. Rayshaun Benny is an immovable mountain of a man vs the run. Cam Goode is their 5th DT and he might actually be a starter on a few B1G teams this year. And that EDGE room has legit 4 DUDES and is only scratching the surface with how good they can be. They should be able to rotate their front 7 in waves and wear down most teams they play this year. They need to get their starting secondary pieces back healthy and lock-in CB2 spot, but man that defense could wind up being something special this year.

I don't think Michigan covers the spread, either. Rutgers appears to be playing at a higher level. I predict it will be a 3-score game. Rutgers could even get an early lead, but eventually nature will take its course, and Rutgers will be vanquished.

Rutgers leads the Big Ten in rushing.  Rutgers is also #7 in the nation in scoring D and did not play cupcakes unlike Michigan with the #1 scoring D.

I mean technically it was a harder schedule than Michigan, but we're talking about:

1-2 Northwestern
1-2 Virginia Tech
2-1 Temple

vs.

0-3 East Carolina
2-1 UNLV
1-2 Bowling Green

Most places have this game off the board.

I don't know if Rutgers covers 26 for the game, but a small amount on Rutgers for the first half (probably be 12-ish when it goes up on Friday) isn't crazy.
