I sure hope you are right!

Ohio State's defense has been a little weird.  Statistically they are phenomenal and they have been lights out for long stretches but they also just seem to forget to play once in a while.  Also, they have this weird penchant for starting SLOW.  Two examples:

Against Penn State:
The Nittany Lions first drive went 61 yards in 14 plays for a FG but their next scoring drive wasn't until the third quarter and in between those two, tOSU only allowed:
  • 3-and-out
  • 3-and-out
  • 6 plays, 30 yards, punt
  • 7 plays, 46 yards, int

Against Indiana the contrast is even more stark.  On their first drive the Hoosiers offense looked like a hot knife cutting through butter.  They methodically drove 70 yards in 11 plays to take an early 7-0 lead.  Indiana's next scoring drive was in garbage time when they were down by 24 late in the 4th quarter.  In between those:
  • 6 plays, 8 yards, punt
  • 3-and-out
  • 3 plays, 7 yards, fumble
  • 8 plays, -4 yards, blocked punt
  • 3-and-out
  • 5 plays, 32 yards, punt
  • 3-and-out
In both games the defense came out and kinda gave us tOSU fans a scare by giving up a ton of yards on the very first possession but then they locked down and looked fantastic.

Even with the slow starts, if they can perform at the level they did against PSU and IU, it is hard for me to see a viable path to victory for the visitors on Saturday.

It's almost as though they both scripted their opening drive.

I cant recall there even being one, but I also believe the Big Ten had the "no night game in November" rule until 2012ish

Made it back to 2001, and didnt find any, and I feel pretty confident there were none prior to that, so this would be the first.

In 2020 they postponed once and the scheduled makeup game was 7:30, and then was outright cancelled

I had never thought about what UCLA does when USC plays ND rivalry week. Fresno, huh?

When did they switch Maryland from Rutgers to Penn State? Is it on a rotation? I don't recall Penn State protecting any annual rivalries.

It has been on a rotation ever since they joined the league.  MSU-PSU was never a real rivalry, but they spent 20 years selling it.  So at least it became a tradition, if not a rivalry.  then they added Maryland and Rutgers to the rotation, to make sure you always have two games that nobody cares about

Our rival is a dumpster fire.  Will be glad to piss on them to put it out.  The most epic collapse in modern college football history couldn't have happened to a more perfect program.

FSU SUCKS!!!

So FSU, how's that ACC lawsuit going ...

is that ucf v uconn rivalry still a thing?    relegated to native Floridians getting sassy with the snowbirds from Connecticut since Covid.

this is indeed the first 'night' kickoff for Purdue v IU.
