Yup good luck.

One of my peers on my team just retired, it might end up saving me for another few months...

I worked 32 years for the same company, was moved around some between sites in Cincy.  That career is probably disappearing now.

I did look around 3-4 times, I recall interviewing with a company that had an opening for what was titled a two level promotion for me, and the hiring managed said something like "So, you won't be expecting to get paid that much here, will you?".

Welp, I’ve been posting to this thread for awhile talking about how I want to make it to 50 etc but now I’m not really sure I will make it that far. Our company is not doing so hot, they’re restructuring , laying people off, and I really don’t have any work in my department. I honestly expect them to come pick me up any day. It’s funny how this stuff plays out.  8 months until I’m 50.

Good news is that the guy next door ( same job) told them he wanted to retire, he might take the hit instead of me. He’s in his mid to late 50’s.

I hate to derail your retirement thread, but following this line, I'm going to be really interested to see what's covered in our monthly dept. meeting this Thursday.  With the DOE recently announcing it's anticipated major downsizing, I figure state universities like mine--which I'd assume are in a very different position than the ones in the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System--are going to be scrambling to figure out how to proceed.  Additionally, I haven't had much to do lately either.  I've been handling some update requests for old projects, but in most cases those turn out to be like 30 minutes worth of work.  Nothing new has been coming in.  My supervisor indicated prior to the holidays that things were slow but would pick up after the break when the Spring semester started, but that hasn't been the case.

I wouldn't say I'm worried about being laid off, but there's enough going on to raise my eyebrows.

No worries. Derailing threads, it’s literally what we do best. I e derailed my own thread more than once.
