There was a female celebrity from Cincy that said on a late night show that she couldn't wait to get home and have a threeway. The host and the audience took it differently than the way she meant it.

I mentioned before dropping $600 at Bachannalia with my wife a month or so back.  That part was memorable.  Was it really good?  Yes, it was.  Was it worth it?  Maybe once a year?  Maybe.  We had lunch today at PF Changs which of course was decent, not bad, $50 or so with tip.  It's next to Costco where we spent $375.  Usually after Costco when weather is nice we have lunch at Canoe, which is one of our 5 or so favorite places to dine.  Canoe is a really nice experience, it might be $80 for lunch with a glass of wine etc.  Dinner could hit $120, and I'd prefer that 4 times to Bach.

My wife's favorite is La Grotta, which is Italian, with a bunch of really good Mexican servers.  Good luck with a reservation any time soon unless it's late.  This is a place where "Old Money" goes in Buckhead, and it is really good, probably the best Italian I've had outside Italy, though I had some in Cleveland once way back.

We had lunch again at Lewis BBQ.  My wife didn't quite understand what she was ordering and the bill for 2 was over $100.  I ad their rueben special and ice tea, the sandwich was $17, so whatever she ordered  got out of hand, and she left a 20% tip (she paid).  She was not real happy, I did explain to her tipping when you order from the counter.

I was confused because the first thing you order are your sides, which, well, isn't how I'd do it.  My rueben was quite good, it was their daily special.  Anyway, she said next time she'd prefer sitting across the way at their bar.

So your meal with tip was maybe $25... so she somehow spent $75.  I mean, BBQ is steep, but that's like a beef rib plus a pound of brisket kind of money.

And yeah, most places around here with counter service, you order your meat first, and then the sides.

Of course when I set up a catering line, I do it the other way around.  All the cheap stuff up front so there's less room on the plate for the pricey stuff which will stretch it out better.  Bread and pickles and onions and jalapenos, then beans and cole slaw, then potato salad, and finally the meats.  And those meats will be half-slices of brisket and sliced sausage, not whole links, to reduce waste.

She wanted a brisket sandwich, but didn't understand at the counter and ordered brisket, which is weighed, no sandwich.  She had the sandwich previously in their bar.  The sides are $5 each.  At Fox Bros., they have table service, and a sandwich includes two sides, so it works out quite a bit cheaper.

I had some of her brisket, she had trimmed off the sides which of course is part of the tasty part.  It's solid, but I'd say no better than Fox Bros.  Quite a few of our fairly common terms are confusing to her still, which is understandble.  Mine was probably $21 counting the tea.  So her's must have been $50, or $24 for three slices of brisket, which strikes me as ... pricey.

The bar offers sandwiches, and draft beer.

I never order sandwiches at a BBQ place, it always comes out more expensive.

Their brisket is $35/lb so if you think she spent $24 on it then that's about 2/3 of a pound which, if you're also getting sides, is too much for most men and definitely too much for regular-sized women.

Bread and pickles and onions and jalapenos are free, so best way to order is to get maybe 1/4 lb of brisket and make your own sandwich.  $9.  If you really want a half-pound of meat that's fine, your sandwich is now $17.50.

Oh and wait, are you saying she trimmed off the bark?  Yikes.  What's left after that is really not brisket at all.

It was confusing overall for me as well, which is one reason I just ordered their daily special.  She had leftovers aplenty.  Anyway, lesson learned.  I think they should redo  their ordering, but the place is packed, so maybe I'm wrong.

The French place we like has lunch for $15, something with a soup or salad, pretty solid deal.  The offer quiche or some kind of thin pancake stuffed with stuff.
