So, I dropped $600 last evening at Bacchanalia, two of us. Huh. Was it worth it? Maybe once a year. The overall experience is interesting, the food is interesting. They do a good job with textures and flavors. The cheapest bottle of wine is $88, I chose a Mersault that was $174 which obviously bumped the price, but I usually like white Burgundies a lot. I was disappointed in this one. My wife had a lot of comments about this and that, she didn't like the attire of the sommelier, and there was two larger groups that were a bit noisy in curtained off spaces adjacent to the main dining room. We can go other places for really nice dinners for $150 or so, they aren't Michelin starred of course, but they are very good.
Yeah, four of them is better, to me. Even 8 of the $75 places is probably better overall, I can eschew the wine perhaps and obviously save quite a bit, just get beer and some Q.
One of the larger groups was keeping the somm really busy, there were six of them, I'd guess their tab could easily broach $10 K. Probably lawyers.
