"Tex-Mex" around here moved upscale pretty fast, aside from the "real" ones on Buford Highway.
Well no wonder all you're finding is crappy versions then. The worst Tex-Mex places here in Texico, are the ones that are "upscale."  Sure they might have good eye candy and decent drink specials, but the food is typically forgettable at best.

Looks legit, I'd give it a shot if I were in the area.

Who the hell wants an "upscale" platter of Tex-Mex?  Tex-Mex is comfort food not haute cuisine.  It's poor people food.

sorry, upscale may have been a poor choice of term.

I meant good or much better than average - didn't mean price or fancy digs

You should come over for the CG unless you're AFRAID.

We ain't gonna make the CCG but it looks like a short trip from Athens.  I could come watch the Horns lose at Sanford and then beebop over for some At-Mex.

If you come to the game in Athens, I'll go with you, and try to get tickets somehow.  I'll even pick you up at the airport and drive you to Athens and let you stay on our sofa bed.  That of course will likely be a hot ticket.  You can wear burnt orange, I still even have a Texas cap.  We'd go up early and see if we could get into a TG somewhere.  Probably have Kurt and the boys there.

The weather should be prime.  I like the term "At-Mex", which likely is what it is, even though nearly everyone dining there is Hispanic.

I just checked if there are any Krystals in Dallas-Ft Worth, and all three locations are permanently closed. It's a White Castle takeover.

I'm guessing white castle will be permanently closed soon
especially if they're counting on my business over Xmas

I don't understand the seething hate for the In-N-Out fries.

I suppose they are a little bland if you just eat them plain. But it's not like they are soggy or greasy or anything that would normally ruin a fry.

Once you add the salt packet and drizzle a tube of the animal sauce over them, they are delicious.

salt and sauce are delicious

the fries I tried back in January just had a little salt and tasted and had the consistency of Styrofoam

They're generally limp. And nobody wants a limp french fry.

If you eat them IMMEDIATELY, they're just ok. Not great. But ok.

But even 10 minutes to drive home (if you drive thru) and they're utter trash by the time you get home.

I've often taken to ordering them "well done", i.e. double-fried. Then they're crispy at least, but overdone.

They're just... Not good.
