I'd never order caviar, nor would I eat it again. The texture is off-putting.

I like goose liver, duck liver, chicken liver, in various forms.

In general I stay away from liver though, it's high in purines which is bad for uric acid and therefore...

Definitely not a daily staple.

We used to order Rumaki. Can't find it down here.

Tonight.

It was excellent. The red wine was so good, we bought a case - 50% off for this event. $240 for a case of that wine is a huge bargain. I was great.

Wifey and I went to Pagilai's Pizza in Iowa City 8/7/25. It was better than I remembered it when I was a student in the mid-to-late 1970s. And yesterday I learned its originator died a few weeks ago. Pagilai's Pizza founder

Dad enrolled at University of Iowa in 1957 and Paglia's was started in 1957, but mom (age 91) said yesterday, she was not aware of pizza until later, and never ate there when dad was a student. I was born in 1957 and do not recall eating pizza until I was about age 10 or more. They did not eat at Paglia's until I was in school at University of Iowa.

Pagliai's Pizza Iowa City is an amazing place to eat.

We dined at Boqueria last evening, sat outside which was nice.  This is a small chain of Spanish tapas style places.  My wife likes similar restaurants called Barcelona a lot, but we have to drive to either of them.

Best New Tapas Bar in ATL | Boqueria Colony Square

We had the Chef's Selection, which is pricey at $65 each, but I was feeling frisky, and a pitcher of red sangria.  We have leftovers.  It was a lot, but we did sample some we liked and would reorder and some we wouldn't.  The wings were overcooked and dried out.  For the money, not a great deal, but was a nice experience.  A couple could get some interesting small plates to share and a couple glasses of wine for $70-100.

They redid Colony Square a couple years back and it has become pretty popular now.

a friend took me to Archie's Waeside last night for a belated Birthday dinner

I took it easy since she was buying - had the $25 extra thick dry aged sirloin rare - it was wonderful as always. She had the same steak cooked medium

appetizer, dinner, & drinks, less than $100

That tapas menu and pricing does not excite me at all.

I'd love to go to Archie's. I'd order the chopped steak.

$25 for a thick dry aged sirloin is great.  I think I'm gonna move to Iowa!

I don't know anywhere here you could get a good steak with extras and drinks under $100, under $200 maybe, that would be a push.

There is a place called "Hal's" north of us we might try sometime, but I generally don't dine out on steak.

I notice now the "sides" are getting pricey as heck, a side of asparagus can be $14 or more.  A salad is $10-18 depending.  Maybe the steak is $40ish, salad is $14, glass of wine $18, for one person.  And this is on the low end for here.

The STK near us is featuring a 3 course for $69 each.  It's not my favorite though they have an OK social hour.

Believe it or not, Texas Roadhouse is a place to get a really good steak at a really good price.

agreed, I just don't care for the atmosphere and wait.

Archies is much better and less expensive to boot

You're finally on my side when it comes to eggs.
