Taste alone is not the only key. Texture and consistency are unmatched qualities.

So what does Vienna Beef do that other hotdogs don't do?  A snap?  More density?  Their own % of spices, I'm sure.  And the casing...I guess I'm asking what's cost-prohibitive for someone else to ape VB?

It's an Austrian recipe so it does have more spice than the normal regular hot dog, and yes, more density and snap.

There are places around here that sell them, along with other brands.

One place sells Nathan's but if you want Vienna you pay an additional $1.50.

Shake Shack (from NYC) only uses Vienna Beef. That says a lot.

I think some of you have an awfully high ceiling when it comes to a $15 meal.
Exactly. This is always the problem when people experience In n Out for the first time. There's so much hype that nothing could possibly live up to what they've imagined.

It's an inexpensive fast food burger. It's just a really good example of one.

Yeah InO is fine.  It's just way overhyped by its fanbois.

That's what I've found ANY burger joint to be - too much hype it CAN'T live up to it.
In-n-Out
Culvers
Steak Shack
5 Guys
All good burgers, but.....just a FF burger.  How does it garner hype?
All of them have a thin beef patty no one in their right mind would serve at home.  Hell, once upon a time on the Rez, out of boredom, I recreated a Big Mac and couldn't because I couldn't get the patties thin enough, lol.

There should be no hype for fast-food anything, tbh.  It's FF.
Not a Frosty, not McDonald's fries, not a Whopper, not Whataburger, none of it warrants any hype.
I think the hype is actually regionality losing its bearings, a la Cal in the ACC.
You see certain places in movies and mentioned on the interwebs, but it's not in your region, so it seems special.
I was obsessed with The Big Lebowski in HS and the first opportunity I had when I moved out west was go to In-n-Out.  It's just a burger.  No superpowers.  Didn't orgasm.  Nothing.  Just a burger.

But I did learn one thing.  They have the worst fries in the fucking galaxy.
