SEC and B1G officially have deciding power on playoff format going forward.

14 team:  4 guaranteed spots go to SEC and B1G
2 guaranteed spots go to XII and ACC
1 guaranteed spot to sacrificial lamb "other" conf champ
last spot goes to ND if it qualifies or an at-large team (probably from SEC/B1G)

So with 2 conferences guaranteeing themselves 8 out of 14 bids, that's 2 conferences pulling in nearly 60% of the CFP revenue.

As an Arizona Wildcats fan, it's not that this type of hostile takeover by the SEC/B1G will eventually force UA into permanent Have-Not status and push the football program out of the Top 50 for good. Arizona is already out of the Top 50 most years. But the bigger difference will be that the gap between the Haves & Have-Nots will grow that much wider, and for the Have-Nots it will not only be impossible to compete, but I wonder will it even be worth it to keep football? Without equivalent TV revenue and NIL to pay players I can see the UA football program considering a slide into the Mountain West or worse. Worse meaning the administration might give up on football altogether here in another decade or so, especially with UA's athletic department continuing to operate in the red. Gonzaga's focus on basketball is looking like a good bet.

Yeah, possibly.
And since we can't go backwards, the only hope is for the B1G and SEC to split the top 50-60 programs and organize it so everyone plays everyone else in their region, then has an ACTUAL equal chance at a NC.

Arizona could win the PAC division, get into the playoff, and then who knows?

Hard to consider U of A, though.  Like 50 years in the Pac with no RB appearances.  That's messed up.
Florida went 50 years before our first outright SEC crown, and it was taken away.  But we had that 'sleeping giant' thing going on.

To tie this divide into basketball, the timing can’t be worse for the ACC and better for the SEC. While the B1G is having their usual year as a top 2 or 3 conference in basketball, the SEC has leapt over everybody for the #1 spot while the ACC is having an uncharacteristic down year. At times it appears the ACC might only have three at-large tournament bids (more realistically 5) while the SEC looks to have at least 10 at-larges. Currently 8 SEC teams are ranked.

With the ACC always known to be more of a basketball conference, and with universities like Clemson, North Carolina, and Florida State actively trying to leave the ACC the last half-decade, this is not the time for a down year, especially with SEC basketball surging. This further allows the SEC and B1G to be viewed as the two “money conferences” for TV deals, which further justifies demanding more spots at the postseason table, which leads to more $$$, which makes both conferences more attractive for the bigger name schools the ACC (and Big 12) badly need to keep.

Several years ago Greg Sankey basically gave the league an ultimatum on improving SEC basketball.

Looks like it worked -- even better than he expected.

With the ACC always known to be more of a basketball conference...

From Awful Announcing: "In case the current bracketology forecasts weren’t enough to convince you of the ACC’s men’s basketball downfall, perhaps ESPN’s commentator assignments will...ESPN’s lead college basketball announcing team of Dan Shulman and Jay Bilas will be on the call for the SEC Tournament this year after years of broadcasting the ACC Tournament."

It's probably too much to say that even ESPN wants to move on from the ACC's basketball prominence over the SEC.
