I don't really need to wait and see.  The trend is apparent.

Old Bowls > BCS/Alliance > 4 team playoff > 12 team playoff.  We're going the wrong way.
I actually still think 4 team was worst

If you do this, get rid of conference championships, and get rid of at larges

Top 2 in the Big Ten and SEC are in, Winner of the ACC and Big XII are in

CCG weekend, #6 plays at #3 and #5 plays at #4 in the Big Ten and SEC for the 3rd and 4th spots; #3 plays at #2 in the ACC and Big XII; and then the #4 Group of 5 champ plays at #1 and the #3 plays at #2.  That fills out the other 8 spots.
This is what you would get, last year, remember this is post-regular season.  I think Notre Dame figures into the ACC

AUTO-BIDS
  • #1 Oregon
  • #2 Texas
  • #3 Penn State
  • #4 Notre Dame
  • #5 Georgia
  • #15 Arizona State

CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY
  • #21 Illinois at #6 Ohio State
  • #14 South Carolina at #7 Tennessee
  • #17 Clemson at #8 SMU
  • Iowa at #9 Indiana
  • Ohio at #10 Boise State
  • LSU at #11 Alabama
  • #18 BYU at #16 Iowa State
  • Marshall at #24 Army

Then just assuming the SP+ favorite win, and we seed directly off rankings, with slight modifications to avoid conference rematches in the first round, and I would make the two Group of 5 winners the bottom two seeds no matter what...

  • #1 Oregon - BYE
  • #2 Texas - BYE
  • #24 Army at #3 Penn State
  • #10 Boise State at #4 Notre Dame
  • #18 BYU at #5 Georgia
  • #15 Arizona State at #6 Ohio State
  • #9 Indiana at #7 Tennessee
  • #11 Alabama at #8 SMU

Just go to 16 and have 2 rounds of home-field games @ better seed.
I don't disagree and I don't know why but they seem to be unwilling to have two home games for anybody.
But agree, byes are stupid.
I agree with the two of you and maybe the fact that the SEC and B1G Champs were among the four teams that got byes and ALL lost in their first game created some momentum to do away with them.

I'm not a fan of constant expansion but I've consistently said:
  • North of two, go to four.
  • North of four, go to eight.
  • North of eight, go to 16.

I'm just not a fan of byes at all.

This is terrifying.
Upsets happen.  They're statistical certainties.
So take one of those higher seeds, say OSU...they beat a team they're supposed to, then get to play another crap team who upset someone the round before.

It's all bad.

I think I look at the college football postseason sort of like how our justice system is built to avoid locking up the innocent, in the understanding that it's a better goal than locking up everyone who is guilty.

I'd rather exclude 1-2 possible teams that could win the NC instead of letting in more teams, some of which basically have no chance.
Sorry/not sorry.

I do not care, which is good as caring creates angst with no other impact on reality.

Do whatever and I’ll respond after.

Thanks for posting about your apathy.  I'm guilty of it too, on the basketball thread.

I'd be more passionate about things if I had even a little influence

The powers that be (if any) will be calling one of us from the board any day now, right?!?

Im not saying I want it.  Im saying if they are going to 14, with those auto bids, thats how I would want it to look

CFB for a long while had subtle and slow changes in it, now the changes are large and frequent.  It's not good.
