Remaining Undefeated Teams after Week 3
« on: September 19, 2019, 12:59:59 AM »
Teams with 1st loss Week 3:
Indiana
New Mexico
Kentucky
Michigan State
Iowa State
Maryland
Hawaii
Southern California
Mississippi State
North Carolina State
Illinois
Colorado
Troy
Georgia State
North Carolina
Boston College
Texas Tech

Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:
10: All conference champs plus Notre Dame. No changes this week

Teams with 1st loss:
Week 0 and 1: 35.38% (46 of 130)
Week 2: 38.01% (32 of 84)
Week 3: 32.69% (17 of 52)

Week 3 Thoughts:
-Most the highly ranked teams won this week, but definitely some chaos with lower ranked teams.
-Big 12 definitely seemed to have the best week. Rest of power 5 conferences had more blemishes.
-Group of 5 NY6 bid: UCF won convincingly vs. Stanford. Beat Pitt similarly next week and win out and at least a mention of them has to be put in the national title chase. They'd need a lot to break their way, but at least watching out for now. Beyond UCF, we have a total of 11 teams from Group of 5 conferences that are undefeated, with all but 2 of those from the American and Mountain West. Outside a major upset win, UAB and Appalachian State likely only hope for Conference USA and Sun Belt respectfully.

Week 4 Thoughts:
-We have 4 games between undefeated teams. They are: Air Force @ Boise State (Friday), Michigan @ Wisconsin, SMU @ TCU, Notre Dame @ Georgia.
Air Force @ Boise State: Winner remains unbeaten and probably top team in Mountain West to possibly take NY6 spot.
Michigan @ Wisconsin: Michigan's struggles with Army will be forget with a win here. On the flip side, lose this and their remaining schedules suggest several more loses likely on way.
Notre Dame @ Georgia: Big game with possibility of instantly putting the Irish in national championship picture or once again strengthen to top of SEC.
Appalachian State @ North Carolina: If Appalachian State wins this and stays unbeaten, they seriously enter NY6 race. If not, Sun Belt likely out of it.
UCF @ Pitt: Last scheduled game vs. power 5 for UCF. Win big and they are in national title discussion at least.
-Will probably add remaining winless and 1 loss team next week.

Remaining Undefeated Teams: ACC: 3, American Athletic: 5, Big 12: 5, Big Ten: 6, Conference USA: 1, Mountain West: 4, PAC-12: 4, SEC: 5, Sun Belt: 1, independents: 1, total: 35

I don't see an obvious win for UCLA on their schedule.

Massachusetts appears to be the worst team in FBS, and it might not be close, though they do play Akron. The rest of the winless teams have primarily lost to decent teams.

“When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft. On the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing”
