Remaining Undefeated, 1-Loss, and Winless Teams Before Week 8
« on: October 18, 2021, 12:54:11 AM »
Little rushed as know this will be my only time to get out this week.

Teams with 1st Loss Week 7:
Kentucky
Iowa

Teams with 2nd Loss Week 7:
Appalachian State
Arizona State
Brigham Young
Boston College
Wyoming
Liberty
Army

Teams with 1st Win Week 7:
Connecticut

Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:
8: Conference champs of every conference except the MAC and PAC-12

Teams with 1st loss:
Week 0 and 1: 41.53% (54 of 130)
Week 2: 34.21% (26 of 76)
Week 3: 32% (16 of 50)
Week 4: 23.53% (8 of 34)
Week 5: 34.62% (9 of 26)
Week 6: 23.53% (4 of 17)
Week 7: 15.38% (2 of 13)

Week 7 Thoughts:
-And then there was one in the PAC-12. Arizona State lost a late game vs. Utah. That leaves just one-loss Oregon with a reasonable chance at a CFP bowl. If they lose one (and they haven't been super impressive since the Ohio State game), then the PAC-12 is likely out.

-It was a good week for the Big 12. Texas blew another late lead vs. a school from Oklahoma and that leaves both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State undefeated in conference. Baylor remains as a strong 1-loss team with the win vs. BYU. This can still fall apart, but is a good spot for Big 12 CFP bowl hopes right now.

-Iowa losing to Purdue was the biggest upset of the week. That does reduce the small chance the Big Ten had at two, but Iowa itself probably does still control its destiny. If they finish at 12-1 and Big Ten champs, they should get in.

-Georgia did what was expected and beat the wildcats. With Florida's loss to LSU factored in, that makes it very unlikely they do not go to Atlanta representing the SEC East. Kentucky is alive for a NY6 bowl game for sure still.

-ACC's hopes now rest in Wake Forest, North Carolina State, and Pitt.

-No huge changes on Group of 5 conference NY6 front. San Diego State almost lost which would have lowered Mountain West odds a lot, but managed to come through.

-UConn won a game beating Yale. We now only have 2 winless teams left.

Week 8 Thoughts:
-We have no games between undefeated teams this week. We have one possibility next week with Michigan/Michigan State if Michigan wins this week.

Undefeated Coastal Carolina @ Appalachian State (Wednesday): A big game in the Sun Belt. Coastal only a small favorite here. The conference's small chance at a NY6, likely only remain if Coastal Carolina wins this game.

San Jose State @ winless UNLV (Thursday): UNLV only a few point underdog here.

Undefeated Wake Forest @ Army: Army has been pretty decent this year and wasn't bad in a close loss vs. Wisconsin last week. Helps ACC a lot to have Wake keep winning, but Army only a 3 point home underdog here.

Undefeated Oklahoma State at Iowa State: Iowa State is a touchdown favorite at home. Oklahoma State is one of 2 undefeated Big 12 teams and will keep going up rankings fast if win this. Lose it and Oklahoma will be only undefeated in the conference.

1-loss Oregon @ UCLA: UCLA a slight favorite here. The PAC-12's CFP hopes lie in Oregon winning this.

Clemson at 1-loss Pitt: Pitt is the favorite to win this game and the slight favorite to win the conference. Who would have guessed this game would start in that position to start the year?

Undefeated San Diego State @ Air Force: The Mountain West's last undefeated team is an underdog on the road.

1-loss NC State @ Miami (Florida): NC State is going up ranking slowly. This will continue if they are looked at best in ACC. Only small favorites here.

Remaining Undefeated Teams: ACC: 1, American: 2, Big 12: 2, Big Ten: 2, Conference USA: 1, Mountain West: 1, SEC: 1, Sun Belt: 1, total: 11
