Remaining Undefeated, 1-Loss, and Winless Teams Before Week 7
« on: October 11, 2017, 11:08:28 PM »
Teams with 1st Loss Week 6:
Oklahoma
Michigan
Utah
UTSA

Teams with 2nd Loss Week 6:
Louisville
Texas A&M
Wake Forest
West Virginia
Maryland
Oregon
Florida
Duke
Ohio U.
Florida International
Minnesota
Kansas State
Southern Methodist

Teams with 1st Win week 6:
Bowling Green
Nevada

Percent of Undefeated Teams with 1st Loss
Week 0/1: 36.15% (47/130)
Week 2: 37.35% (31/83)
Week 3: 28.85% (15/52)
Week 4: 35.13% (13/37)
Week 5: 29.17% (7/24)
Week 6: 23.53% (4/17)

Maximum possible Undefeated Teams at End of the Regular Season:
7: Conference USA has lost its last remaining possible undefeated team with UTSA dropping a game this week.
Possible undefeated teams: Alabama/Georgia, Penn State/Wisconsin, Miami (FL)/Clemson, San Diego State, Washington/Washington State, TCU, and Central Florida/South Florida/Navy

Week 6 Thoughts:
-We lost our last undefeated team from Conference USA and the lost our last winless teams from the MAC and Mountain West.

-With the losses this week, we only have one possible game left between unbeaten teams before Thanksgiving weekend and that is Central Florida vs. Navy in 2 weeks.

-Definitely a shake-up in a few conferences this week. Big Ten sees Michigan go down and the Big 12 sees Oklahoma lose. Probably a bigger deal for the Big 12 as that leaves them with only TCU unbeaten. The Big 12 very much wanted this year to be easier given it was left out of 2 of the first 3 years of playoff bowls. It might still end up with a team easily in, but they would have felt much better about that if they were still looking at the Sooners unbeaten (even if they eventually lost to another top Big 12 team).

-UTSA loss leaves just San Diego State and the 3 American teams left undefeated at the Group of 5 level. Do not count out the MAC, Sun Belt, and Conference USA as there are scenarios where their 1 loss teams could wind up with the bid, but I think we are looking at close to 90% of scenarios with the champ of the American or Mountain West conferences going.

-In weird results, LSU beat Florida a week after losing to Troy. Honestly this probably makes the Gators record accurately reflect how good of a team they are, but they have been pulling out games so far this year and this one felt like the opposite.

Week 7 Thoughts:
-Really, week 7 already…

-We have no games between unbeaten teams (ended most them very early this year, after just 5 weeks went into a lull). Our undefeated teams are in the following games: Undefeated Clemson at Syracuse (Friday), undefeated Washington at Cal (Friday), Arkansas at undefeated Alabama, Missouri at undefeated Georgia, undefeated Washington at Arizona State, undefeated TCU at Kansas State, Purdue at undefeated Wisconsin, 1-loss Georgia Tech at undefeated Miami, Cincinnati at undefeated South Florida, Boise State at undefeated San Diego State, East Carolina at undefeated Central Florida, and undefeated Navy at 1-loss Memphis.

-Of those games, the most interesting to me is Boise State at San Diego State. This is the Aztecs biggest remaining challenge most likely. Boise State might also still stand a chance with 2 losses too (one of them was a very close loss to a now ranked and undefeated Washington State) if they look good the rest of the year.

-We have a game between 1-loss teams: Utah at USC

-Our winless team with the best chance to win this week is probably Georgia Southern who hosts 2-4 New Mexico State this week.

Once again an excellent summary.  One small typo.  I. believe you are missing TCU from thiis list as your 7th possible unbeaten.

It's "funny" to think Kentucky could very well be undefeated except, well, they are Kentucky.
