Maximum possible Undefeated Teams at End of the BOWL Season:
1: Central Florida finishes at the lone undefeated if they beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl.

Maximum possible Undefeated or 1-Loss Teams at the end of the Bowl Season:
3: The 4 Rose Bowl/Sugar Bowl teams all have one loss right now and thus the national championship winner will finish with 1-loss and the rest will have 2 losses. They will be joined for sure by Central Florida, who will finish either undefeated or with 1-loss and possibly with Wisconsin, who will remain with 1-loss if they beat Miami (FL) in the Orange Bowl.

 Week 14 Thoughts:
-First thought is that the undefeated and 1-loss lists continue to show every team who has entered bowl season with a shot at the national title. Since the start of the BCS, we still have only had one 2 loss team make a national championship/semi-final bowl and that was in crazy 2007. I continue to believe that the committee cares a lot less about losses than the BCS did, but we are now 4 years in without a 2-loss team making it. I would guess that does not hold up going forward and by the year 8 mark we have had at least two 1-loss teams in. That said, these lists are more interesting the more the undefeated/1-loss rule stays true.

-While not relevant to our lists, I do want to make note of both Idaho and the Sun Belt. Idaho, once a member of the predecessor to the PAC-8, has jumped around a bit over the years, and now is dropping back to FCS status and joining the Big Sky. In their final FBS game, they went on the road and defeated Georgia State to finish 4-8. Good luck Vandals going forward.

-The Sun Belt meanwhile completed its last season with a traditional schedule, the last conference to do so. Appalachian State defeated Louisiana Lafayette to gain a share of the Sun Belt title. The winner of Troy/Arkansas State was also going to get a share and with a 32-25 win, Troy won on the road. Congratulations Troy and Appalachian State for finishing as perhaps the last co-champs for a conference title in football for a long time.

-In games that got more national attention, Ohio State defeated previously unbeaten Wisconsin, but not convincingly enough to jump Alabama for the 4th spot in the Rose/Sugar. Georgia got revenge on Auburn in the SEC Championship to advance though and Oklahoma and Clemson kept their spots by winning. Meanwhile, in a great game, Central Florida held on in their rematch vs. Memphis to take the G5 spot.

 Bowl Thoughts:
-Undefeated Central Florida plays Auburn in the Peach Bowl. Hopefully Auburn in motivated here after their disappointing finish and we get a good game.

-Four of our five one loss teams are in the semi-final bowls. Not much for me to add here that anyone doesn’t know, but Clemson vs. Alabama in the Sugar and Oklahoma vs. Georgia in the Rose. The weird thing to me about the match-ups is, as the #4 team, Alabama gets the same bowl they would have if they were #1, while SEC Champ Georgia goes to Pasadena.

-Our other 1-loss team is playing in the Orange Bowl. Wisconsin will play Miami (FL) there. Both teams would have been in the Rose/Sugar with wins, but losses in their respective championship games pushed them out.

-Our last match-up is one I am almost more excited for than playing in the playoffs and that’s Big Ten Champs Ohio State vs. PAC-12 Champs USC. Would have been much more excited for this in the Rose Bowl, but still it’s not often anymore we get a true Big Ten champ vs. PAC-12 champ and I am very much looking forward to this. I get that I am in the minority who isn’t terribly disappointed to be just out of the playoff bowls though.
